I got some ns1000 + e5amp for crimbo but im lacking a sound card

Im thinking of selling them to get G35

All i do is game, no music and no movies

Would a decent sound card offer me a nice surround sound experience similar to what i would get with the G35?

Talk me out of it or talk me into it please. Whats your experiences?

Thanks

PS Whats my onboard compared to a soundcard too?

Thanks for the reply

What cans do you have with that sound card? What's the surround sound like? Are you impressed with it or just satisfied?

Thanks in advance

G35 uses Dolby Headphone which is exactly what you'll get on the Xonar DG. NS1000 are better quality headphones with extremely good synergy with Dolby Headphone. The G35 would be a downgrade compared to the NS1000 + DG. Your FiiO amp will still be handy for if you prefer using the NS1000s without batteries or like a more bass-heavy sound.

The Xonar DG offers better compatibility for many games released prior to 2007. Before that most games used DirectSound3D to give surround sound. All direcsound3D games will be plain stereo on the G35. Many (not all) will still give virtual surround on the Xonar.

Uriel you are the man exactly what i was looking for

Would you spend the extra cash and maybe go for 7.1 soundcard then?

NS1000/e5 and after an initial bit of teething trouble I'm now blown away by the difference to my old Audigy/ 5.1 medusa arrangement, which I thought were good for positional sound. It doesn't have a mic so I bought a clip on one for the rare times I use voice in game.

So I'm impressed.

I may be wrong about this (I've not tried the DG, only other Xonars) but I believe that the Xonar DG is still capable of virtual 7.1. It only does 5.1 from the analogue outputs though. Maybe someone who has one can confirm.

From reviews I've seen the Xonar D1 and DX sound different but not significantly better from the DG. To get a real step up in sound quality over headphones, you would be looking at something like the Xonar ST or STX, which are significantly more expensive.

Yes, it's only physical connection where the DG differs, ie, 5.1 and not 7.1. 7.1 only matters if you are going to connect 7.1 speakers, which are about as common as price reductions in fuel tax these days.

DG can still use 8 channel for DH.
