Basically my motherboard is screwed and/or half my RAM. SO i could replace these for descent stuff for around £200. Or I could upgrade to the new sandybridge well for around £500.

I was thinking of upgrading to SSD hard drive also.

What do you guys think?

Sounds to me like a good excuse to upgrade, flog your Q6600 and upgrade to sandybridge. DDR3 ram is cheap enough and get yourself an SSD it makes your OS nice and snappy.

I think £70 - £80 is the sort of price you could get for your Q6600.

Power supplies are usually fine for a good few years although they do decline in efficiency as they age. Although again you could probably get decent money second hand for the OCZ (using the big auction site) and grab yourself something new.

I always prefer to use brand new parts when I can on a new build. If the power supply is only a year old or something though, then there's probably no real reason to get rid of it.

Depends on what stepping the Q6600 is, G0 is the good clocker around £65-£80. A good quality PSU should last a good few years some come with 5+ yr warranties

I agree sounds like a cracking excuse to upgrade, about £80 for the old CPU should be easy to get.

All depends on how much cash you have!!

psu's should last until they die, really, wouldnt say you need to replace that ocz 550watt one, sandybridge is really power effecient aswell

I currently own a core 2 duo e7300, 4gb OCZ 1066, Asus pq5. Currently converting my dvd collection to digital 264 codec and my cpu is really feeling the pain :).
I think i can break down my components and sell them on, especially the ram for a good price and upgrade to a 2500k without hitting the wallet to hard.
Hopefully cut my encoding times in half.
