hi all just wandering if anyone can help me, recently got this game through steam, and the game keeps crashing, and have to manually reboot pc, i have got all the updates, changed sound drivers, etc etc.

i know its not an overheating problem as i have checked and my cpu dosent go abobve 60, and gpu gets to around 75 ( gtx 480 sli )

i have tried to force the game into dx11 then dx 10, still no joy, anyone know of any other things i can try.

any help would be appreciated.

If you were to post his in the current Battlefield BC2 thread instead if starting your own then you may get a better response.

When the game crashes, do you get sound loop back (ie, constant buzzing or a continous sound) from the speakers until you reboot?

yes m8 thats what happens, i have just installed the nvidia graphics 266.35 but still the same problem.

never have any crashing of any sort in any game, i play a lot at the moment due to recently being made redundant, had furmark running to get gpu temps up no probs, had prime 95 running for hours, no probs there, its just this one game, pc never gets turned off unless it crashes, i do a lot of bluray encoding photo editing with no probs.

What specs do you have and what speed is your chip running at? Passing furmark points even more to the instability being in a different part of your system.

Also bare in mind that unstable RAM causes crashes whilst still passing prime small ffts. Blend testing is key for allround system stability. Is it running within spec?

edit: thanks for ninja edit with system specs :)

Hmm, what volts (QPI and vcore) are you running for that clock? How about load temps?

I know its a pain but troubleshooting instability is a slow and methodical activity. Would you believe that some round these parts thrive on it? :D

whats blend

Its prime number testing that uses both CPU (small FFTs) and RAM (large FFTs) and test both elements which is important as both CPU and RAM/Memory controller need to be fully stable to ensure no strange crashes occur.

The "Blend" test uses FFTs with sizes which range from very small to very large. The FFTs are not run in-place so the tests cycle through RAM. The blend test automatically picks a "Memory to use" value which uses up all the RAM in the computer. This is the version of the test which is most likely to fail if you have bad RAM. Note that on some computers running some versions of Prime95, the blend test allocates more memory than can fit into the physical RAM in the computer. When that happens, Windows has to use virtual memory and the test ends up accessing the hard disk a lot. That ruins the test because the CPU isn't doing anything while it is waiting for the hard disk to access the data whereas the test is really supposed to be keeping the CPU busy at all times in order to stress it. You can tell that the test isn't working properly if the hard disk activity light is on most of the time. When the blend test is running properly, the hard disk is only accessed occasionally. If you're running Windows 2000 or Windows XP then you can also check whether the CPU is fully utilized in the task manager. If the blend test has allocated too much memory then stop the test and bring up the "Run a Torture Test" window and make sure "Blend" is selected. Then select "Custom", reduce the value in "Memory to use (in MB)" to a somewhat smaller value, and then run the test again. Continue until you find a small enough value which works properly.

ok ill give it a go later, just seems weird that bad company 2 is the only game that does this, i can play games like supreme commander forged allience on a large map for hours without probs, temps arent a problem load cpu temps on max around 65, gpu load temps 80 max with furmark.

Id also try verifying the game files in steam as well, right click on bc2, properties, verify integrity of game cache. Ive had to do this with a few steam games before.

I had exactly the same problem - the reason I ask about the constant sound loop.
Seems to be a problem with BC2 and sound drivers along with PunkBuster; follow this link Bad Company 2 Fix
Follow it to the letter and it should be fine.. I did what the link outlines and its been perfect since - Zero crashing. Another vote of success; my brother had the same problem. Now solved too..

Pop any questions in here if you need to and I'll keep an eye out. :)

Edit: you do have Realtek sound on your motherboard?

link broken m8, i have already verified the files, it crashes during a multiplayer game anything from 5 mins to 30 mins into the game

You're too quick ;) Link is ok now - made a doody when I first posted it :)

To be honest I don't think it has any relation to overclocking, my computer is not overclocked. It could be, I just don't think it is. :)
