Hi all

im looking to upgrade by GPU very soon , maybe in next coming months.. i am hardcore gamer an i cant max out settings on my GPU as it low mid range.

i will be uasing air cooling , have antec 1200 case. which one wud u guys recommend best bang 4 buck an performance.?

I have checked sum review an amd 6950 xfire is much faster than gtx 580 the only things thats worries me is 6950 xfire causes a lot of heat as they are so close together so top 1 wud be hotter casuing fans 2 ramp up?

should i get 2nd 6950 an put on 3rd pci express x8 as i heard there is no performace loss?

:)

get a 6950 flash to a 6970.
If that's not enough get another and crossfire. They are remarkably good in xfire. I think load temps rise by about 10'C but the noise doesn't increase at all (well 1.5db or something irrelevant). Given you have a 1200 case you shouldn't have any worries :)

cool info thx.. what about the flash upgrade voiding the warrenty is this true? an would u recommed sapphire or gigabyte for 6950?

Not entirety sure on the warranty, but if you did had any issues you could always flash it back to a 6950 before RMAing.
As for Sapphire of Gigabyte I personally have a Sapphire, but there isn't really anything in it. Both are good quality makes. If I had to pick one myself though it would always be Sapphire just because I've used them for the last few years and haven't had any issues...yet :P

whatever you like mate...both great brands....pcbs are all made in the same factory anyway with sapphire/gigabyte/xfx cooler on it....

Monitors aren't really my area but I've heard Seasonic do a couple of reasonable 3D monitors. Maybe worth checking out.

If you're interested in 3D can I advise you do a bit more research, AMDs current 3D solution can best be described as poor at the moment.

If however you only want a 3D monitor for 120Hz then fair enough :)

Hi

thanks for advise... u advised ", AMDs current 3D solution can best be described as poor at the moment.

can u please explain what is bad in 3d on AMD compared to nvidia?

If your motherboard allows for installation of two cards with space between them (even if you have to use one PCE-E x16 and one x8 slot), go for Xfire. If the two cards can only sit directly next to eachother get the 580. 6850 crossfire is faster, but you will probably struggle to notice the difference in anything but benchmarks.

For reference I just built a system using 2x GTX 460 and a Gigabyte UD3R for a friend. He complained that the graphics cards made too much noise when gaming, so I moved one down into a x8 slot, creating 4cm of space between the cards. This allowed both cards to run cool and quiet, and sacrificed very little in performance. Running 2x PCI-16 slots scored soemthing like 60fps in Heaven, and then running one of the cards at 8x scored 59.5fps (I cannot remeber exact numbers but the difference was small enough to be insignificant). If you only have 2 available slots, get a single 580.

There's plenty of stuff been written on these very forums concerning AMDs 3D (HD3D as it's now been labelled) solution just do a search.

I think the main bugbear is you still have to buy 3rd party drivers to get it working, why AMD can't sort their own 3D drivers out for their own cards is beyond me?

Once you've bought the drivers you then have to source the 3D glasses, again these will have to be third party items as you won't find dedicated AMD 3D glasses to buy at this moment in time.

So after paying for your 3D drivers and sourcing some compatible glasses you'll then need to find a compatible monitor to play your 3D games on,

apparently not all 120Hz monitors work with it atm, in fact judging by this list there's a grand total of 3!

Nvidias 3D vision on the other hand is pretty flawless, setup is a breeze, most games work really well with it including lots of old titles,

there's plenty of new titles coming out that are 3D vision ready, and it will work on all existing 120Hz monitors, basically it's all integrated beautifully.

So to conclude, at the moment there really is no comparison between Nvidia and AMD when it comes to gaming in 3D,

hopefully AMD will catch up enough to give people more of a choice but until that day comes Nvidia have 3D sewn up.

Some more reading for you here :)
