plugged it in to my 40 inch LCD last night and it looked terrible.

Would a be better off picking up a cheap portable (about 14 inch 4:3) from a car boot and did the N64 output 360 or 480?

My choice for any retro gaming would be a decent 20"+ Sony Trinitron CRT, cheap as chips from eBay or AdMag type places.

I guess if you're going to do it properly get an old CRT similar to what you used to play it on.

I been looking at 21" Sony Trinitron WEGA TVs

I believe the N64 was 240 and with the exp pak it was 480, could be totally wrong.

Just get a scart thing for the n64 and its more than playable on that... :D (well what I did to get it onto the 32" lcd) The one from my cube worked fine too

The exp pak didnt change the resolution I dont think, just helped improve what could be shown on the normal resolution...

Yeah i have the scart lead but it still looked fuzzy on the 40 inch LCD the only game that looked good was Turok 2 seeds of evil using the memory expansion pack set to high rez mode in the option.

mario kart kept spazzing out going all blockly think thats compatibility with the tv tho as some other games worked fine.

The best picture quality you can get for the PAL N64 is via a S-video cable. If you use scart all your really getting is a composite connection. Other options are to buy a modified NTSC which will can give out a RGB Scart picture. If you google it you will fine one for about £50. If however you really want the best picture then use an emulator which really improves the graphics.

Yes you can have it any res you like, but then the awaful textures and limited poly-count on the models show up!
