Due to a bit of a change on plan, and a bit of balancing the books, I've had a bit of change of mind of car that I'm after.
Previously, I was looking at a 3 Series, which I will still be after, but in around 18 months time. Reason I'm delaying purchase on this is the fact I'll be enjoying the sunny delights of Afghan for 6 months at the end of 2011. Don't really want a more expensive car sitting there, depreciating with no use, and the fact I'll come back with quite a bit extra cash which will be going towards a car and/or bike.

So, for now, I'm looking at something quiet a bit cheaper, a diesel, ideally a saloon or hatchback, with a maximum engine output of ~150bhp(What I can be reasonably insured on in Germany).

So far, I've been looking at SAAB 9-3's from around '05/'06, I do quiet like the look of them in the flesh(know they're not to everyone's taste mind you heh). Is there anything I need to know about them or anything to look for? I know they're basically Vectras dressed up some what, but that doesn't put me off massively, I'm not looking for a massively stimulating car, as I've got my motorbike for that lol.

Cheers in advance guys :).

The engine's about as refined as a tractor engine and the boost pipe and associated clips are made of cheese, but the 150bhp is a very reliable unit, it's economical and it pulls well.

Saw a silver 2.0L 320d on auto trader 03 plate, about 76k miles, cruise control, all kinds of extras from a dealer near Leeds for £4,000.

I wish i can afford it now!

Why would you want to buy that? It's a bit cheap, so it's probably quite shabby. All kinds of extras? You mean the standard base specification I'd imagine - even cruise as standard.

Oh, and an engine that lunches its internals as a hobby writing the engine off.

Cheap 320d's are utterly pointless cars. You buy a diesel to save money, but you spend more than what you save keeping multiple previous owners 8 year old cast-off on the road.

Lol, that's money saved!
