8800GTS vs 2600K onboard GPU

Hi,

I will be opting for a P67 motherboard so I will be using the 8800GTS until I can afford an upgrade but out of interest, is the 8800GTS faster then the onboard GPU in the 2600K if I were to buy a H67 motherboard instead. I hear in the Sandy Bridge motherboard thread, the onboard GPU can rival a 5650 but I'm not up to date so have no idea on the 5650's capabilities compared to my current and dated card.

Well, i do love my 8800GTS.

Why not try em both out?

Won't be able to as the P67 I'm going for will not allow access to the onboard GPU but just interested in the performance difference.

The onboard GPU is significantly worse than your 8800GTS (whatever version). Looking at this review the onboard graphics can't keep up with the 5570, which is significantly slower than any of the 8800GTS series.

Don't get me wrong - the onboard is the best intel graphics ever released and is plenty for 1080p video playing and light/old gaming, but compared to any discrete GPU of a decent quality it is still very poor.

onboard GPU is more on par with 5450 really. Cant beat the 5570 and probably suffers from compatibility issues.

Plus that review ran all the benchmarks at 1024x768 and lowest graphics settings, which almost certainly means that the games are severely CPU limited when using a 5570; i.e. the 5570 is being underutilised.
