Why did the iPhone alarm break and fix itself?

I've seen things on the internet about people missing flights and all sorts, but what caused a small window of time where it wouldnt work?

I dont know much about programming so a dumb explanation would be nice

Possible iPhone update caused it to stop working.
New iPhone update released, and it started working again.

What i find confusing is that an update wasnt needed, after the 3rd/4th (i think) it just started to work again without any updates.

When i googled it on the 1st when mine didnt wake me up i found somewhere that it would fix itself in a couple of days and it has. Just wondered why?

Apple aren't really the kind of company that would come out with details.

It's been suggested that the fix to the last alarm bug has caused this problem. Phones running older OS versions weren't affected.

I was affected on 4.01.

I heard it was something to do with the alarms and the internal time being stored in different formats, so when the actual time changed the alarms didn't. Things get lined up again when we passed the date for the clocks to change in America, when everything got changed to the right format.
