Is there a point when you should start getting sensible cars?

Im almost hitting 40 and have always tinkered with the cars I have had and to coin a phrase, been a bit of a boy racer.
Twenty years ago I had a modded Mini and then a Pug 309GTI which I was always adding bits to. I then met my wife and went through a sensible period when we had a 1.4 Escort.
I soon got very bored of that and when we had our first kid I managed to get as Vectra 2.5 SRI. A few years later the wife wanted sensible again and we got a Landrover Freelander. We had loads of mechanical issues with that and then got an Audi A4 3.0 Quattro estate.
Last year the wife wanted a second 2nd card and I managed to swing a Fiesta ST.
The issue now is that I am beginning to get the modding bug again. I had to replace a broken spring on the ST and ended up doing all 4 springs with lowered Eibachs

Hoping to get an induction kit soon as well.

Is there a time/age when you should just give up and get a people carrier or something similar?

I certainly hope not - I'll be fifty in April and my car certainly doesn't qualify as sensible.

I think there is when you have children. A R34 Skyline just wouldn't cut it at 40.

my old mans in his mid fifties and is currently sporting a modded scooby and a 205 gti on his drive

i also know a chap in his 70's with a slightly tweaked evo 9

You should never stop a hobby cause you'll get bored if you do.
Theres nothing wrong with tinkering otherwise if you stop you might start tinkering with other things like your house and end up breaking something

They were a £50k+ car at new, It was mostly older people who could afford to buy and drive them.

Yet a GTR is ok for 40+

You had a fall recently and banged your head? First we have T-sport Yaris as a first car and epic insurance costs then crazy talk about R34's

Barely any younger people can afford to buy a GTR. A car that was £60k+ new is not 'aimed' at young people.

I think I'm mainly influenced by those rich Japanese guys in there late 20's driving R34's around. R34's still cost over £20k mind you.

Pretty much everyone I know who has a R34 in the japclub up here is older.

Talking about the people in Japan. I don't know about the Japclub here as I've never been a part of it. So sorry for being incorrect with my earlier statement.

Its not in the slightest bit sensible however with nearly 700bhp.

Who says a practical car has to be sensible ?

Cars like that exist BECAUSE people in their 30/40s with families etc.. still like to have nice cars.
