Hi fellers, i'm 21, currently working in sales and i despise it but im doing it to save money to go to america to do my dream of music.

Now i've completed a highly accomplished music course in england, qualified sound engineer.

My dream is to move to america to work in the music business ideally a music producer.

I literally can't take my job anymore, and decided since my friend is going to new york to finish her fashion course which requires her to go to new york for 6 months, i'm going to visit her in april for a week, but i was thinking today at work, that why don't i apply for a temporary work visa, then once finish visiting her, attempt to find a job and cheap flat etc and make my way. My friend and i have always wanted to live in america so we're looking into it.

I've looked at the visa website and there are many different types of work permits and i can't decide which one i would come under?!

Help!

Good luck with that.

Unless you have a special skill that someone wants you are VERY unlikely to be able to get a job not specifically designated for foreign workers.

Someone might correct me BUT.

Unlike places like Australia, I don't think you can just GO apply for a VISA and work there.

It's more the other way round, you find an employer in the US, they get you (or sponsor) your VISA. You also need a Social Security Number to work in the US, without it you won't get work.

With regards to music, it will be hard to find an employer for a runner vacancy but that's where i have to start.

My friend obviously got a student visa, but i can't get one since i'm doing doing education out there.

There are definitely short-term visas available as a friend of mine spent 6 months last year working in California and is doing the same this year.

I lived and worked in new york for over one and half years, never had a visa, I appreciate I was working for a UK company :p

I personally hated it there, after the initial honeymoon period was over I grew to detest newyork and its inhabitants!

Hmmm this sucks, i can't stand this place i love america and the people and their ways.

Could i not use the fact i'm a "salesmen" then or something?

their ways??

I can't help thinking you are just doing this on a whim, and not a very well thought out one at that.

No, a salesman is not a skilled job. Anyone can do it, and lots of Americans do.

You've got pretty much zero chance unfortunately.

You might get a temporary work visa if you get the appropriate sponsorship but you won't be able to rock up and get handed a green card. The only way to realistically do that is to win one in the green card lottery (if you are a national of an eligible state. Britain is not) or to marry an American. All other avenues are nigh on impossible unless you really are someone special, e.g. a professor with outstanding knowledge/skills.

It'd be easier to get into North Korea.

I wouldn't say zero chance. But without a desirable skill/talent its extremely difficult.

I think you can only apply for a working Visa if you have already been offered employment.

Definitely not on a whim, the music business over there is a lot better compared to here i feel.

I've always wanted to live and work there.

Wanting and qualify for their criteria are totally different things.

Robbie Williams failed to crack the US, what made you think it's better or easier for you to crack than here?

Don't rely on music to get you a job there...it won't.

Sales won't either.

I figure you are born on the UK, so the lottery is out.

The only thing left and probably the EASIEST is to marry an American.

Ok, so say i head out there, visit a few studios and they ARE looking for a runner vacancy, due to my experience of working in one of the countries best music studios etc and i ask them to sponsor me would that work?
