Not booze, not drugs. It's chasing skirt. Most primitive cultures have some way of men proving themselves as worthy to women. Bull fighting is a leftover from that.

the bulls have veins slashed before hand so they have already lost a lot of blood beforte the rigth starts, they are also tranquilised.

the bulls do not stand much of a chance and the risks are fairly small

It's an age old tradition. It's certainly a bit rich and raw for modern tastes and so we shall soon see the end of it.

Whether that's a good or bad thing is a different question.

I think anyone who wants to try it should go old school and do it Minoan style:

Healthy bull. No weapons. The objective is to vault over the bull, touching its horns on the way. They used aurochs, which were larger and more dangerous than modern bulls.
