It's cheaper to run than the 330i and is still 140bhp from a 2.0 16v. It's also not particularly expensive.

If I wanted a minimal spec 2 door 318 I'd get a 318ti Compact for a quarter of the price.

This seems clean enough though.

why go to the bother of BMW servicing costs and running costs for a 2.0 140bhp car ?

There is that, but he appears to be fretting about insurance costs so I doubt something like a 330Ci is that sensible.

To be fair, a fair amount of the running costs do come from the engine and associated parts.
The cooling system on the 4-pot isn't made of cheese, for example.

This isn't really a useful way to look at cars, though. Judge them based on how good they are for the money not how much better they are than your crap current car.

2k for an E46 compact of the same age, really? Even if that was the case I'd still pay more to get the coupe as I really can't get on with the looks of the Ti.

I did wipe the dribble off my chin and asked my carer to help me find a 2k 318ti that would be a credible alternative to the car in the OP but we couldn't find one and I'm playing connect four instead

I wasn't having a dig or anything, I was just talking about of my arse when I made that £2k comment
