How to move 200kg from portsmouth to Brighton?

tbh i would leave the bench, its worth about £20 second hand.

the weights 190kg, as long as they are olympic, are worth £275+ brand new (depends on they type and make, some can be worth £1K+), second hand £190+ assuming they aren't special in any way, just standard olympic plates.

Sent you a message mate.

Regards

The bench is very high quality.

£70? The value of the kit sort of goes down. Will end up paying £220 in total if this is the case, which seems to expensive. Guess i'll just have to look closer to home. Damn I hate waiting. Bet I'm going to be looking in a months time. ¬_¬

£220 for 190kg of weight on its own is very good price. If you don't want it feel free to send me the contact details / advert, i'd happily have it (as long as its oly weights) :p

What are olympic weights, how do I tell?

Olympic weights have a 2inch hole in the center and are usually a lot more expensive than standard 1inch stuff which is what your Argos special vinyl weight sets are

It will fit in a hatchback easy with the seats down.
this clearly is not a fixed bench that has stands stuck up etc etc.

It's no problem providing the guy can put in on a pallet and secure it with a strap? You'd be looking at a price of around £70 for item to be delivered within 4days max.

Also the bench should weigh more then 10kg if its good quality. My powertec one is 30kg and came in 2 parts.

£70??

It's £25 in petrol max and a few hours total!

If you can wait a week or two I will be back for uni in Ports and would be happy to do it for a reasonable price :)
Have a saloon that it should easily fit in with the seats down, fits two bikes in fine.
Message me in trust if you want.

LOL! Ok whatever you say matey.

ive seen the advert and pics, i doubt the thing would fit in an estate, the bench has a lat pulley attachment and other stuff too. it isnt olympic weights either and the equipment is mostly crap.

OP: better off joining a gym (a lot cheaper than building a home gym) or doing some research here http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=26 if you really wanna go down the home gym route

if you buy cheap crap, you cant do a proper workout and if your really into weight lifting you will outgrow it within 3 months, meaning you wasted your money.

the minimum you would need for a decent setup:

rack (minimum £300 new) - mines was £750 including attachments
bench (minimum £200 new) - mines was £430 including attachments
olympic weights and bar (minimum £200 new) for 100kg +bar
matting (2 horse stall mats - £80 minimum) - 2 is just to start with, you will need more if you want to do deadlifts and other stuff outside your rack.

so i suggest you just join a gym and if in 6 months time you really want a home setup try and get the above second hand, even second hand you would be lucky to knock off 25-35% from the above. and this is bare minimum you would need to spend.

Is it one of those benches that folds though? Sounds like it would be. Then the attachments come apart.

What's the advert link?

Worst "I spent a lot of money on weights" post ever.

ok I'm curious how come these weights go up to £1k?

Is it denser/more expensive metal, a very complicated machined shape, what exactly makes discs of mild steel so expensive?

It's expensive to manufacture basically. Olympic bars are also built to withstand huge stresses - unfortunately big lumps of metal cost a lot (for good quality stuff).

Nope, he is pretty spot-on. I spent the same on my setup and the second-hand route is not that much cheaper either.
The benches and 'all-in-one' machines you see in catalogues are a complete waste of time.

Believe me thats nothing, it can get very expensive building a commercial home gym. I'll be flogging my set up later on this year, feel sorry for anyone picking it up in a car, I have well over a ton in Olympic plates and dumbbells :D:p.

If you are being good with the prices let me know first, could do with some more stuff :P

Assuming access for a large vehicle is not a problem at either end, see if you can find a local haulier who would do it as a "return load"* for you.

I got an engine, on a pallet, from Preston to Oxford for about £60 using this method, you will spend hours on the phone organising it mind you!

* Trucks have a delivery in one area but no return load back to the deopt / next re-load. Small hauliers are often happy to take something even if only to partly cover return fuel costs...
