Hi,

I am a proud owner of the Roccat Kave Solid 5.1, but I've been on the look out looking for a sound card. As the onboard one (ma785gt-ud3h) is frankly terrible;)

Can anyone recommend a sound card? I've had a look at the Asus Xonar DX, but I really want something for movies 60% and gaming 40%.

Asus Xonar DG 5.1.

21 quid on OcUK, for the price nothing beats it :) had mine running for a week now :)

Doesn't your board have 2 pci slots? Should only be a problem for the DG if you use two triple slot graphics cards and if you did then even a pci-e solution would be problematic.

The DX is the better card but apparently the difference in audio quality is quite small and not something you'd notice on a 5.1 headset.

I went DX as my pci slots are in a worse position that yours and besides who knows how much longer they'll be around for.

Yes, in order from right to left on your board.

1) PCI-E 1x
2) PCI-E 16x - for your graphics card
3) PCI-E 1x
4) PCI-E 1x
5) PCI-E 16x (running at only 4x and shared with the two above PCI-E x1 slots)
6) PCI
7) PCI

So you can have a PCI card in one of those PCI slots (6,7) or a PCI-E card in one of the available PCI-E slots (1,4,5) although it might not fit over the heatsink at Pos 1.

I have my Xonar DX in an 8x/16x slot on my X58 board.

thanks, so despite the small gold connections on the card, it will fit on an older pci slot? sorry, need to sure as i can buy this today

The DG will only fit in a PCI slot.

The DX will only fit in a PCI-E slot.

Pick which card you want based on which slots you want to use. Don't go getting a PCI card and trying to ram it into a PCI-E slot as that will just end in tears.
