How on earth is circumcision legal?

Got to laugh at the people who say it's more hygienic. The reason it is for you is because you obviously didn't wash it well before!

I'll stick to what I was born with thank you, it's completely pointless removing it unless there is a medical problem that requires the operation.

Fair enough if you're religious, but as said, surely God would want you to keep it otherwise he wouldn't have created humans with foreskins in the first place. Common sense is obviously missing when people decide to get it done I'm guessing...

@ RDM

My reasoning is based on compliments from the other sex, they're hardly going to say that your foreskin looks lovely, if you know what i mean.

They are also hardly going to say "My God, what an absolutely ugly ****! I wish you hadn't had it cut." :)

You also have no idea if the compliments outweigh the probable loss of sensitivity and enjoyment from that. Basically with nothing to compare it to you cannot say if your life is better or worse than if you didn't have a problem and didn't need it removing.

Very true RDM,

You seem very passionate about this issue - perhaps you should undergo the surgery and document your findings over a several year period so we can have some form of concrete evidence either way.

Why on earth do you think I am passionate about this issue? I just think circumcision on minors for non medical reasons is wrong. At most I am passionate enough to write a letter to my MP (he hasn't got back to me yet, probably waiting for what Labour Central Command tell him is right...) I also think it is wrong on adults, but if they choose to do it, then that is their choice (as per other comsmetic procedures I would expect it to be done privately). So no, in the interests of science I will not have extraneous bits of me chopped off just to see what it is like.

I am surprized that you guys are wasting your time questioning the legaliy of something just because it is required or recommended by religion. Piercing is legal but no one questioned the practice when it is a waste of money, bad taste and doesn't have any health benefits.

Silly comparison. For one, "waste of money" and "bad taste" is a subjective matter. Secondly, no one does it for health benefits - it's a choice. "Fashion" if you will.

What most slightly educated people are against is forced mutilation of genitals as a child or otherwise. And are also questioning the "health benefits" that it provides as an adult. Yes, there are medical reasons why it may be used as an effective treatment for certain conditions, but that's about it.

Outside of that, it comes down to barbaric 'tradition' and religious dogma.

I don't think parents should have the right to ask a surgeon to mutilate their kids. If there's a medical problem regarding the foreskin, fine, get it sorted.

Religion :/

Agree with all you said, except the religion bit. Lots of religions have no mandate whatsoever for this mutilation. :p

I dont think they should do it, give the kid the choice when they grow up. but isn't it a bit far to make it illegal?

I am having this done in the next couple of months, because of phimosis. Obviously it can't be predicted but i'd wish I got it done as a kid. I'm 20 now and not looking forward to the operation and the weeks after it.

Just don't think of boobies!

Keep repeating to yourself "Must not think of bouncing boobies!"

You could say the same thing about Tonsils / Appendix / Gallbladder, we don’t need them and there is a chance they will all get issues but does that mean we should remove them at birth just in case?

Good luck with your op mate, hope all goes well. :)
