Thanks for any help
Alex

I imagine a good starting point would be to google firewire 800/express 34 card readers

:)

I have looked for express 34 ones before but the problem seams to be most of them run at usb speeds i guess i should word my question better

i want an express 34 reader that will work faster then my current usb reader any recommendations

or people who shoot dslr video how do you transfer your video?

what memory cards do you use ? that can speed the process, i have used pci express and dont find it faster than usb but firewire 800 is however my hd cam only has mem card or usb so it cant use firewire.

how big files r u using

Its a SD card in the camera at the moment i am using a SD class 6 card

i the camera its self is usb but as the sd comes out the camera would be nice to have a really fast reader for it.

A Firewire (any speed) reader would help. USB has this crazy bandwidth overhead that can really cause transfer problems on laptop and low end motherboards.

You will of course still be limited by the speed of your SD card. Where the class indicates the minimum transfer speed of the card in MB/s (in this case 6MB/s), and the x-speed (ie 400x) indicates maximum speed (wikipedia)
