I need to procure a new TV unit as the ex is getting hers back in the split, I really like the look of the low bench units but having trouble finding a decent well priced one.

Noticed a lot of you AV boys have got very nice furniture in your setups, so was wondering if you had any recommendations. The sort of style I'm after is like the Ikea Lack:

Bummer with that is I can't get to Ikea to collect, else it would have been spot on. :(

I'm not being funny... but the Lack bench is £40.75 Surely even if it costs you another £40 or £50 in a taxi, or you bung a mate a few quid to run you there and back, it'd still work out cheaper than just about anything else other than the cheap glass racks from Argos??

If you can't get there because you live in the middle of nowhere or are disabled then give me a shout. I can get one delivered for you. Ikea don't do that, but I can.

Failing that it's a cheap rack from Argos on home delivery. It won't look as nice though ;)

Got a lot going on at the moment, a drive to Southampton is not what I need on top of clearing a 2 bed house and splitting up from my ex. If I had the luxury of time, I'd be all over a leisurely trip but right now I need stuff quick and cheap (not Argos!). ;)

Beware the lack doesn't have the internal height for an amp/center speaker etc. and it looks naff if you just plonk it on top IMO.

Also the one in the original post is extremely poorly made, Well it is ikea.

I had one for 3 weeks, and then took it to the local dump. It scratched very easily, the veneer started to come off after about a week.

Don't bother, save your money and get something decent.

I have the lack (the same as in the op's picture) i have had it for around 5 years and it has been faultless. It's very sturdy but it probably would scratch easy but once your tv and stuff are on it how would you scratch it as the only time you would touch it is to clean it.

For £40 I'm hoping to get a year out of it, if it does any more than that I'll be well happy. I think I'm going to go for one of the Besta units sans doors, suits my needs. Plain, simple and holds enough AV equipment to keep me happy. :)

I have that one but in a darker colour, very nice unit people think we paid a fortune for it and are very surprised when we tell them how much it is. Really love the unit and more than half the price of any of the glass shelved units we have bought. Only thing i will say is there is not much room on the shelf height wise, had to remove the feet off my amp lol.

I own the lack (in the black/brown finish) and actually its extremely well finished for something that costs less than £40. As pointed out it does lack depth in the lower shelf for anything but a Marantz amp as the height is less than 150mm .... that brings me to this

How can you plonk it on top if your TV is sitting on the top?

This is mine after I modded it to allow my new amp to be ;) plonked on top

I don't have a TV on top as I have a 106" Projector Screen hanging there instead :p. But yes you generally can't.

So few units are big enough to fit an amp in its a real pita :(.
