Sky News understands increased numbers of British Transport Police officers are being deployed at transport hubs in the London area amid continuing fears of a New Year terrorist attack.

Sky sources have indicated members of the emergency services have recently been briefed about how to respond to a Mumbai-style attack on the capital.

The UK's terror threat level remains at its second highest level - severe - meaning an attack is highly likely.

Sky's security editor Sam Kiley said transport police are being told they have to cancel days off tomorrow and some will be deployed across the capital and as far as Luton and Heathrow.

He added that no change is being made to the current terror threat level.

What do we read into the fact it seems like they are concentrating on just one day? Do they have intelligence to suggest something is in the pipeline, but for some reason, they can't pinpoint the threat and derail it?

Not sure what increased unarmed transport police are gonna do if you get a small number of well equipped terrorists opening up with AK47s.

Get intelligence to think you're doing an attack on public transport

Police go look after stuff under threat

Terrorists go ahead and bomb whatever unrelated thing it is they plan to bomb.

??????

Profit?

its scary stuff guys especially if you have family around them areas
It isn't.

Currently the entire country's terror threat level is severe, which is the second from the top.

The sectorial terror threat for the areas that have been reported in this thread has been elevated to severe.

If there was specific intelligence about a threat to those specific areas, the sectorial terror threat level would be elevated to the highest threat level.

Nothing to see here.

Has the 'terror threat level' ever been anything less than Severe? I was under the impression that it was basically covering their backs if anything were to happen, if it was at 'safe' or whatever and somebody blew something up it wouldn't look very good, so they just leave it at 'severe'.
