2 MILLION dead fish in Maryland now

Cold water stress due to massive overpopulation forcing them into colder waters. It happens when they over breed.

As for the others, I suspect that pollution, natural causes, habitat destruction, adverse weather and in the case of the Crows fireworks, have been the respective causes of many of the others.

This seems like there are loads together simply because every single one globally has been reported in the media whereas normally it just gets some byline if that.

I really wouldn't be surprised if ENSO is somehow playing a part. I think it's safe to suggest that we're currently experiencing a La Nina event (flooding in the East of Australia). As we don't really understand what causes the process, we can only really observe recent trends and it hasn't been uncommon for past ENSO events to have impacts in - or at least be blamed for - completely unrelated local oddities around the globe. The climate is after all, a dynamic and closely-related system. Dead fish could be something to do with water temperature or nutrients available and the dead birds could have experienced strange air currents or local weather events. All of which can be related to ENSO.

Just a thought anyway.

the most logical theory so far its the megnatic field of earth is about to change! or changning ....

No it ****ing isn't. Go boil your head.

It takes 10K years for the magnetic field to change, and it would have no effect on anything.

I say these events happen all the time, but nobody bothered about it before. Now all the conspiracy theory morons are all up in arms and suddenly it's newsworthy, and so people are saying "I've never heard about fish or birds dying before, it must be 'something'".

Sigh.

No, it's not about to change. as already pointed out it happens around once every 10,000 years, and its not due for a while yet.

And if it did, and did it again the next minute, and then continued to do so at 600000Hz, it probably would do nothing more than create a bit of a spark somehwere on the eiffel tower, as its only about 50 microteslas in strength (slightly stronger at the poles, a cookie for anyone who knows why ;) )

And a sensible and realistic thought it is too.

I agree, ENSO could well be responsible in part. The fact is we understand so little about the climate that anything is possible.
