Hi,
I have just purchased a 8800gts 320mb card to go with mine so I can SLI them. It was bought as working from ebay sunday and came tuesday which was fast but seems to be faulty. My card runs fine no problems with fast boot up etc and no problems in games. I got as far as vista finding the card and installing drivers etc but when I enabled SLI the computer froze and had to restart. Now its says "windows has stopped the device because it has reported problems (code 43)" So tried the new card on its own and just got a black screen when starting but it sound likes windows is loading just no picture :( Tried my card on its own and all is working again. Tried both cards together again but get a black screen.

Have I bought a faulty card for £40?

Any help much appreciated

My spec is,
Intel Core2Duo E6750
Asus P5N-E SLI
4 gig DDR2
8800gts 320mb original working lol!
600 watt psu
Vista 32bit

Thanks

Yeh tried the SLI bridge both ways round and still the same. My original card is working fine with no overheating or errors. Played company heroes for about 2 hours no problems and then a bit of Rfactor aswell. Really annoying  been in two minds about buying a second card and when I do its faulty!

Did the guy have a decent rating? Most people are ok with returns. If not contact the website for further assistance.

He has 164 all positive but just noticed under payments/returns "no returns accepted" great

Do many people buy these to repair? Just thinking if I advertise it as not working.

Ignore that - my listings say that if I forget to change it, but I still will accept returns as that aution site gives buyers all the power. That line is pretty useless, even if it's a private sale.

Honestly, if it was listed as working, then return it as item not as described. If the buyer refuses (which is very unlikely with all that positive rating) then you are protected through paypal - open a case.

99.9% of the time, you will get your money back, which is why I always just accept returns. You will probably have to pay return shipping however - make sure you return it via a tracked service (recorded delivery will do).

What brand PSU is it, how much does it have on the 12v rail? A cheapo 600W may not be up to running 8800GTS SLI.

I thought this at first but I can't get the new card to work on its own let alone SLI at the moment :( It should be a good make as I specified I was going to use SLI in the future when it was put together but will find out the make tomorrow.

Will it be written on the side of the PSU?

Talking about PSU, whats a good one I can buy for the future? At some point this year I will probably update my pc to play the latest games and was wandering what psu is needed for something like a GTX 460 card?

Just remembered something strange I noticed when I tried them in SLI. I have 4gig ddr2 installed but vista only recognises 3.5. When both cards were tried the first time it went down to 3.25

Does that mean anything?

Cheers for the advice great forum :)

ram goes down as your on 32bit and it can only address 4gb total space, that includes VRAM and soundcard ram etc.

600w (if its branded) is fine for a 460 etc.
Ive had one of my gpus have issues with it "not starting due to an error" but after reseating it, it went away. If your just getting a black screen im going to assume its not outputting any picture, check the other dvi port etc just in case but sounds faulty tbh.

Send it back and you will get your monies back :)

Yeah normal as said above if it's Vista 32bit.

Not many people know this, but you can reclaim that missing RAM as a RAMDISK using Gavotte's RAMDISK - it uses PAE mode to get back that missing ram. Link below.

Ok, so it's not available to the system the same as the 3.25GB, but you can put a 768MB RAMDISK to some good uses and it's better than not being used at all.

Contacted the seller today to say it was faulty and could I get a refund. He seems nice enough and suggested a few possible things to try but still not working sadly. He has agreed a refund but wants me to send the card back first and then refund me is this right on ebay? Never done a return or refund on ebay before. Im just concerned he keeps the card, I get no refund and it costs me money to send it back lol!

I assume its normal. Make sure you get proof of postage and use a tracked service so you know he recieves it etc. Then if any problems do happen you can present that evidence to prove you did send it off/he recieved it.

As Ch3m1c4L said normal procedure. You should fill out the return form (pull down option next to the item you bought in your profile), so he can get his final value fees refunded. If he refunded you first, how could he gurantee you'd send the card back to him?

As long as you have the tracking number, you are covered. Any problems -> PAYPAL dispute. Sounds like a genuine guy - most sellers are. I think you'll be ok.

Open a dispute it dose not matter if it says returns or not if it faulty the site you got it from will make him refund you all you have to do is send it back with a tracking number then on delivery you will be refunded.

Like I say he has agreed a refund which is good but I can't find the return form. Im guessing its because he has clicked no returns on the listing. He does seem okay so shouldn't have any problems

Cheers for the advice
