I'm finally moving in to the 21st century and have cancelled my subscription to PC Gamer. I was a PCZone subscriber that got transferred and Gamer is only a pale shadow of the entertaining read that Zone was.

However, I have no idea where I should start to look for PC game reviews and news online and I was wondering if you had any recommendations?

I would prefer something aimed at the more mature reader/viewer rather than the teenage market, and something that is well written but other than that I have no real preferences.

I look forward to seeing what is out there :)

You can look at some version of PC Gamer on the net but I always like to cast my eyes on Eurogamer, Joystiq, N4G and Rock,Paper,Shotgun.

gamespot is pretty good
metacritic is excellent for gauging general response to a game :)

Other than that, when there's a review for a particular game that I want to know about, I just google:

"(Game name) + review"

And look at 2 or 3 different ones:)

Rock, Paper, Shotgun comes the closest to print-style journalism for me. (And I mean that in a good way).
Bit-tech.net for hardware stuff, and good podcasts.
PCGamer.com for podcasts. (It's website is pretty much an RPS wannabe, but they occasionally post on things that RPS don't cover).

I usually go to Game Spot its quite good esp for E3 coverage and HD reviews etc

as for hardware stuff usually OCUK ironically lol

Gamespot reviews can't be trusted. They blatantly pad the scores of games that pay for advertising on their site. I think it was the original Kane and Lynch that they fired a reviewer for after he gave the game a bad review while ads for it were plastered all over the site.

Pretty much all online reviews on sites which have adverts are the same though so none can be trusted nowadays I'm affraid

Metacritic is especially bad as all it does is gather this corrupt data into one place!!!

I'd say Rock Paper Shotgun.

Although they have ads, they don't seem to be corrupted by them in any way.

True, although I think Gamespot are the only ones to have been caught doing it :)

I tend to go by this place more than anything else at this stage. God bless the screenshot thread :D

I go for Podcasts now, which is one step further and find them easier to get.

giantbomb is the only one for me <3 :D.

Another shout for RPS, its a great site, has a lot of the old PCG writers as well, and they do a great job.

On a side note, for Christmas I was given a copy of the Games Master mag, I usually get PC Gamer but they must have run out. Anyway, looking through the reviews, there was something I noticed. Black Ops score:
Graphics: 95%
Gameplay: 89%
Accessibility: 90%
Lifespan: 95%
Innovation: 75%
Overall: 94%

Which, compared with Assassins Creed 2 which was the next review:
Graphics: 93%
Gameplay: 93%
Accessibility: 90%
Lifespan: 96%
Innovation: 90%
Overall: 94%

Which leads me to believe that the breakdown scores are completely pointless and don't actually seem to have any impact on the overall score. I don't know.
