My car is declared off the road, due to it not having tax.

I am about to ring up and get the car insured.

So after the phonecall it will be insured.

But I still wont be able to drive it will I?

as the car needs taxing, and dont I need a letter from insurance company to proove its insured?

Think you're ok to and from (a pre booked) mot test? And maybe on private land (but you'd have to put it on the back of a trailer to get it there).

Ok, suppose I will have to wait for the letter to come through the post then

When I went to pick up a car I'd bought (and actually insured I might add) I got an old Ins Cert and shopped the new date and reg number into it.

I suppose it was technically fraud even though I DID have insurance. The rules around trying to buy an RFL are mad - it's almost like they want people to drive around in untaxed vehicles!

Surely you can buy the insurance, then a few hours later buy car tax online as it will show on the database that its insured?

I may be missing something daft here though. Surely in this day and age you still dont have to physcially speak to someone to tax a car which has previously been SORN....

Insurance covernotes are pretty redundant, if you get pulled and its not showing up on the police check because its too new, a quick phone call to the insurers to confirm is all it needs.

It wasn't the lack of insurance that was the problem, rather that it had no tax on the vehicle.
