What card do i get?

Spring this year apparently. Should be ok. And if it is cheaper than the gtx 580 then i will certainly get it.

Cheaper than the 580? I'm not sure about that. Nvidia will be aiming to topple the performance of the AMD 5970 (which beats the GTX 580 in many games). So I would expect prices to be £500+.

why would it have dvi when hdmi and displayport are much better?

Well most monitors don't support displayport yet and active adapters cost at least £20 a pop. So I can understand why they didn't put DP in there.

As for HDMI, it is very popular - but dual link DVI actually has significantly more bandwidth than HDMI (even v1.4), so I suspect thats why the card is littered with DVI ports.

But that means 3d wint get the best fps right? That was wgat dp 1.2 and hdmi 1.4 were for. Also thise new samsung 3d monitors are going to have dp

Actually FPS for 3D is better with Dual link DVI than HDMI 1.4. Dual link DVI can transmit 3D @ 1200p60, while a HMDI 1.4 connection is limited to 720p50 and 1080p24 or 720p60 and 1080p24 for 3D.

As for DP 1.2 you are quite correct - the bandwidth is huge, but there are no consumer-grade 120Hz monitors that run at a resolution above 1200p at the moment.

The new samsung monitors do have DP connections - but 3D will work just fine connected to their dual-link DVI connection since they too are only 1080p monitors.

Ok. So dvi is better than hdmi. So all reports that the 590 will be cgeaper than 580 are utter BS? unless ati brings sometging awesome and its cheap. Do ypu think that the 590 will lower 580 prices?

I really don't know - but Nvidia would be mad to release a dual GPU card that is slower than their current top-end single GPU card (afaik they haven't done it before). Hence the peformance will be better than the 580, therefore they will certainly charge more for it if the performance is better.

Since even two GTX 460s in SLI is almost as fast as a GTX 580 - then a dual GPU card based on two GTX 560 chips (which is what I reckon it will be) should be a fair bit faster than the current top-end card.

Well the launch price of the GTX 580 seemed to be around £400-420, but this has steadily climbed as their is no real competition for the card. I reckon that when the GTS 590 and HD 6990 finally do arrive then the GTX 580 price will be driven back down to what it started at - but not much lower (since it will still be the fastest single-GPU card on the block).
