Which console for 2011??

Didnt see that question asked in the OP,

^ And No, Still cant afford one.

So if not about the games, why do you think it will dominate for being bust open? what will it give that makes it dominant?

2010 was the year of the PS3 I thought :D I guess we will have to listen to this every year until its finally right ;)

This is just going to turn into another tennis match between me and you who blatantly just dont get on isnt it. There's 2 threads on this very forum explaining in detail what the homebrewing will more than likely allow. This thread asked for opinions and I gave mine. If you disagree, fair enough. Do so, But dont try and pull down my opinion. It's just as valid as yours.

My opinion is simple.

PS3 will dominate this year due to.

1: The things it will offer legally and via sony + Games on the horizon
2: The things Homebrew will bring to the console

:)

I never said I disagreed :) I just wondered why you felt the console being hacked would make a difference, something you did not expand on, no need to be pulling nothing down thanks.....

360 for me, The only PS3 game I had any interest in was Heavy Rain, and not enough interest to warrant the price tag of a PS3.

Also Kinect imo will do better than Move and the Wii in 2011.

However tbh, I don't think anyone will come out that much on top really.

To be honest I never thought about 3DS. Handhelds never came into my mind. Considering the how far off the launch dates of PS3\360 and Wii were. The 3DS is the newest console coming to market, gimmick or not. The Japs love their nintendo products! It'll sell a crap load of units over there. So Although I think it's going to be a good year for PS3(Bad year for Sony though =P) I do think the 3DS will be in the lead this year.

I'm hoping so. Nintendo have a good track record in terms of consistent pricing for consoles of all varieties. It's just unfortunate that the pound is so weak against just about everything right now, including the Yen.

The problem is though they've always been the underdog in terms of the devices output power and usually go for what is usually considered underpowered. I think now they've cultivated enough of the market that everyone knows who Nintendo since the DS and the Wii came out so they can put out the more powerful devices.

I wouldn't be surprised if they announced their next console can do 1080p and play blu rays.

Nintendo next home console will not be lacking in horse power, people forget the wii was done based on sales of the gamecube, which lets face it were crap.

Now look at the 3DS (despite what the fangirls say) is a power little device, its got more power than a gamecube and it has modern shaders, it is a massive leap over the DS, hell it beats the wii in some ways

I think the ps3 is just gonna get stronger and stronger, free online, improving all the time, home is getting better and great exclusives. I mostly use mine to stream tv, movies too

2: The things Homebrew will bring to the console

:)

Personally think you are diluding yourself if you think the above will make a drastic amount of difference to hardware sales

How many PS3's have been sold worldwide to date - 25/30 m something like that (certainly well north of 20 million when I checked middle of last year)

Anything Homebrew related would be incredible if it bought in 100, 000 of sales (and its more likely less than 10,000) and even that would be a fraction of 1% of total sales so far.........considering its probably not unlikely that GT5 alone could easily be responsible for moving 1% or 2% - but without doubt magnitudes of the sales Homebrew will sell

A seriously TINY proportion of users / prospective users even know what homebrew is let alone actually interested in using it. I would be very surprised if 5% of the current userbase even know more than the name and what it relates too (and interest wont go further than that) :)

Taken from wiki -

Retail availability November 11, 2006
(details)
Units sold 41.6 million (as of September 30, 2010)

Quite a few PS3's have been sold, lot more then I thought.. ??

Gears of War 3, need anyone say anymore...? bought an xbox pretty much on a whim because I played Gears at me mates house and absolutely loved it, never looked back since, all my PS3 seems to do is collect dust at the minute, until Killzone 3!

I understand all that, But the way I was looking at this thread, without thinking about handhelds first off(As I have changed my answer to 3DS) Between the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. All consoles have had their running starts already. So the question is which would dominate this year. My answer was the console which already equalled its rival in almost every way with a new bonus homebrew scene.

Console A vs Console B with\without Homebrew

So you have the original userbase of each which I would say are both very strong, And then you'll have the niche market on top for the Homebrewing, And then there is the the 3D scene, I'm aware a lot of users dont hav 120hz tv sets though, So again its on the lower side of the market. But still, The low side of a 41million strong console, even if its only 5% 3D 5% homebrew, Those arent bad numbers (Borrowed your 5%, Not sure of actual stats, could be higher, could be lower)

5% KNOWING about homebrew - I would be surprised if 0.01% actually did anything about it (as I tried to poiint out in the original post) :)

Anyway we will see I guess if hb makes any difference at all at some point in the future

I wonder if PS3 has finally outsold X360 globally incl Xmas figures - it seemed to be possible given last year's figures (if not should definitely happen sometime in 2011 unless Kinnect creates a massive boom in its own right)

The 3DS is going to wait for a revision for me 3-5 Hrs battery and 3.5 hrs to charge, thats kinda PSP1K bad apart from PSPs charge pretty fast, not even sure what settings are used for those times.

According to VGChartz the PS3 sold marginally more throughout the year 14.40M PS3s to 14.28M 360s. It also looks like in the run up to Christmas (coinciding with the Kinect launch) that the 360 was outselling the PS3.
