980X Sandy Bridge Equivalent

looking at the benchmarks on reviews I've read on the web so far I would have said the 2600K & its out right now.

As for an equivalent 6 core version of Sandy bridge, i've no idea.

The 2600K gives you the closest thing to a 980X CPU performance with out the additional 2 cores.

You will have to google Intel roadmap or something like that to see what they plan for the next year or so. But what I do know is that there is a X58 upgrade coming in the next 12months or so. The Sandybridge is a P55 or socket 1156 upgrade.

Hello,

I was wondering what Sandy Bridge chip is the 980X Equivalent and when should it be released?

The fastest Sandy Bridge available is the 2600K but there is no 980x equivalent, those will be coming on the new high-end socket later in the year.

LGA 1155 replaces LGA 1156
LGA 2011 replaces LGA 1366 (later in the year)

Is this 2600k you talk about enough for gaming?

the 2500k is enough for gaming. the 2600k only adds a higher stock speed and HyperThreading which is next to useless in games currently and probably for another 2 years.

Any decent quad core processor from AMD or Intel is enough for gaming if you have a decent graphics card. Even highly clocked dual core processors are enough and tri core processors from AMD.

It is the graphics card that is the most important thing to consider if gaming performance is a priority (for most games)

it's a lot to do with the graphics card how you get on with gaming, even a tri core AMD cpu (with a good GPU) is usually sufficient for 60 frames in gaming terms

depends on the freq of the cpu's. I 2600k @ 5Ghz will beat a 980X @ 4.2GHz

Not for 3D rendering where all 6 cores are utilised. That's why I'm sticking with my 980X for now, since I don't just game on my PC.
