Hello all, I've done my research (including searches on here) but thought it might be worth starting a thread in case anyone's spotted any better deals than me! :)

I'm after a SIM-only data plan for my iPad which is basically as cheap as possible. It will probably get used only 3-4 days a month for fairly light usage (email, browsing, note syncing, Dropbox, some remote server admin etc.) so I'm sure something as low as a 1GB monthly limit would be fine.

The cheapest contract I've seen is £7.50 per month from Three - that's 1GB allowance and a micro-SIM. This seems rather expensive compared to my 50GB allowance ADSL for £25 per month but never mind :p

However, I was wondering if anyone uses PAYG on an iPad, and if so how that works. Do you have to 'load it up' with data allowances in advance, or will it automatically charge you as you start using data? I'm not a huge fan of the former but the latter would be fine.

All thoughts and findings and stuff welcome :) Cheers.

jailbreak it use mywi on your phone as router.. so save and buy a non 3g version assuming you have 3g on phone whic to have added can be as little as £5 per month

Hi,

I use the £20 for 3 months and 3gb from three. Great coverage, for me it has been anyway, and enough data.

I got one of the £20 for 3 months and it's been great.
Was up at centre parcs nr Penrith over Christmas and reception was brilliant. Nigh on full 3G whereas my iPhone on O2 could only just get a GPRS signal, no 3G at all.

Thanks very much for your suggestions. I remembered that I was given a free PAYG SIM with my Three phone contract a few months back, and I've just tried chopping that up with a pair of scissors and to my surprise it appears to work in my iPad :D

It looks like I can do top-ups directly on the device itself, whenever I need to. This should allow me to do pretty much exactly what I was wanting - buy the data allowance when I need it rather than having it lying round unused for weeks at a time. Cheers for the suggestions guys :)

Three, their network is very fast and coverage is excellent. They're cheapest as well.

Edit: just saw your post, never mind!

No worries - I agree :D Had a good experience with them on my phone since switching from O2 a few months back. Cheaper, faster and more reliable

I have a Three SIM Zero card in my iPad with Internet Max addon. It costs £5 per month and gives me a 2Gb allowance. 30 day rolling contract, was the best I could find at the time!

Cheers,
Adam
