I have been looking around for a good deal on motherboard bundles for the new sandy bridge.

I have looked on ocuk and the cheapest they seem to do is, £449.99 for a 2500k
and 2600k at £559.99.

But on another website, I have seen some cheaper deals. I can't link to them but here is the details and price.

i7-2600K Overclocked @ 4.60GHz, ASUS P8P67 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard, 4GB (2x2GB) Mushkin DDR3 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 Silverline, and a Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler. It cost £459.98. inc VAT

i5-2500K Overclocked @ 4.50GHz, MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard, 4GB (2x2GB) Mushkin DDR3 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 Silverline, and a Gelid Tranquillo Quiet CPU Cooler. Cost £349.99. Inc VAT

Are OCUK going to do anything like that at that sort of price?
The 2500k is good and something I may go for at that price.
.

The cost of the individual components at Overclockers at current prices is:

2500K bundle £413.44
2600K bundle £493.43

So your paying £36.55 for the overclock on the 2500K and £67.56 for the overclock on the 2600K.

The motherboards used in the competitor's bundles are £30-£40 cheaper and the CPU cooler £10 cheaper. They also use lower speed RAM.

The competitor does call these "basic" and they have more expensive bundles using components that are a better match for those in the Overclocker's bundles.

The competitor is selling the bundles for the price of the individual components whereas Overclockers are charging for the overclock.

Unless Overclockers stop charging for the overclock, or the prices of the components come down, the bundles aren't going to get any cheaper.

As it's so easy to overclock a 2500K or a 2600K you might as well just buy the components and do it yourself.

Thats a similar bundle from OCUK, but without any over clocking done or being setup.

Thanks for the replies.

Sorveyor, do them prices inc VAT though?

I see i can buy the parts separately but would rather buy the whole bundle with the OC, for convenience and the whole warranty.

Do OCUK price match online prices?

Is that Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler better than the freezer 7 pro?

Think I will wait and see what happens to prices after offical launch. OCUK will hopefully do some more bundles or reduce prices in the next few weeks.

Edit, just seen the post from hedge about prices.
Still like to see what OCUK have to say though. :)

The prices I quoted include VAT.

The overclocked bundles at OCUK are always more than the cost of the components. They always charge a premium for the overclock.

I'm confused. You want a bundle and overclock because it is convenient but you don't want to pay any extra for it?

You seem to be comparing to completely different products and expecting them to be the same price.

Nothing to be confused about. Yes I would like a OC bundle to be about the same price as I found with the other website.

OCUK could do a bundle like, MSI P67A-C45, sandy bridge 2500k and 4gb of half decent RAM. Say kingston RAM. A cooler like the freezer 7 pro.

That can't be far off £350.
The CPU probably only cost OCUK £30-40. :)

If you don't want to pay for the overclock then do it yourself, no one is holding a gun to your head.

I know that but that is what I may have to do, just in that price range would be nice.

New technology always cost more when it's just been released. Just takes some patients. ;)

You could always wait or you can buy elsewhere. The reason why OcUK bundles are more expensive is because they actually know what they're doing and would rather sell you the best compatible and quality components possible for the price than sell you rubbish RAM and inferior motherboards just so they can make a sale. Think about that.

Ok, well this link shows you what the SB wholesale costs are. As you can see - it is significantly more than £30-40 for a quad.

Ok so they cost more than 40 quid but I have seen the sandy bridge at least £10 cheaper. For the 2500k at least.

Here are the prices. I will only refer to them as a competitor. No links.

Competitor A. 2500k= £173.03 inc vat
Competitor A. 2600k= £267.29 inc vat

Competitor B. 2500k= £173.35 inc vat
Competitor B. 2600k= £252.97 inc vat

Ocuk 2500k = £184.99 inc vat.
Ocuk 2600k = £269.99 inc vat.

It may only be about £10 but I would rather have it £10 cheaper than have a crappy game. No offence ocuk. Should have the option of a free game or £10 off.

Sorry? You're complaining about a £10 difference in price.. I'd pay the £10 for:
the excellent service I get from OCUK
the proven stock levels
the cheap P&P (free!!)

If you're that bothered, buy elsewhere and wait for your "cheap" supplier to send your chip in mid February..
