Is my RAM holding me back?

Hi, I have an o/c Q6600 @ 3ghz which is very stable and has been for about a year.
Now, having added an extra graphics card I feel my cpu could be holding me back.
My RAM is Kingston HyperX DDR2 PC2-6400C5 800MHz.
If I try to go above 3ghz, it becomes a little unstable.
I don't have a clue about adjusting timings/voltage/mhz on RAM and any attempts have always failed.

So, my question is if I get some PC2-8500C5 1066MHz RAM will it make my o/c-ing easier/obtainable?

Thanks, and sorry for being a bit amateur-ish :p

No, i dont think your RAM is the issue. You could get you CPU up to 3.6Ghz whilst keeping your RAM @ 800Mhz stock speeds by running on a 1:1 divider.

Install something like coretemp which will tell you the VID of your CPU. Do you know if you have a G0 or a B3 stepping? Also install cpu-z and it will tell us what spped your RAM is currently running at and what divider its on.

Here you go, hope this is the info you need.....

Yeah adjust and lower the multiplier for your memory if you have too, so that it doesn't hold back any overclock.

Sorry, but I'm not really sure what that means!
I overclocked by increasing the FSB then added a bit of CPU voltage (+0.125v).
As I've said, I really don't get RAM settings. Just a bit simple I'm afraid!!

Er...
Do you mean the DRAM freq? It shows 500mhz????
Would it need setting to 800mhz or 400mhz?

Think I'll just buy the MSI SB board that overclocks itself by pressing a button!
