2004 Nissan Primera 2.0 SVE opinions please

Following on from my failed Volvo thread - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18226222 my father in law has found me a Nissan Primera. It's a 2004 2.0 SVE 6spd manual, 65k, full mot, full leather, all electrics, good condition, and just over 2k. He knows the lad who's had it since new, and can vouch for it. Any opinions please, and anyone know of an easy way to play MP3's on the weird head unit/sat nav thingy? ;)

Thanks for the reply, it's just about depreciated far enough for me, lol!

Appreciate the FM transmitter tip, but all the ones I've ever tried sound rubbish unfortunately.
 
Parrot do one, its £50 on the tree related web site and they claim it sounds good compared to the competition and it supports a2dp. Mine cost a tenner and its fine for what I use it for

Yea it wont break down thats for sure, and its got funny dials in the middle of the dashboard :)
 
I thought these were the Primeras that had reliability issues.
I know the previous 2 models were solid, but I didn't see many good things about these I don't think..

I thought these are bomb proof too, what have you heard about them, i know the auto was a bit ropey i thought the manuals were tough as.
 
I've owned 2 (a victim of circumstance - 1.8 SVE, 2004/5), 2 gearboxes, clutch, 2 electric window motors, various suspension components - tv/reversing cam problems, worst sat nav system imaginable. Currently has an unknown cam-chain rattle type of sound. Oh, leaks, always leaks. Rubber looks fine, leak. Replace rubber, leaks anyway..

Replacement parts are fairly expensive from Nissan (£28 each for the centre caps for the wheels for instance, I've had 2 stolen so far in different locations).
Maybe I just got unlucky twice in a row, but the latest one is a 1 owner fsh car, 70k, and I wait patiently for the next issue.

As a car they're boring, slow, un-involving. Lots of bouncing and wallowing around, I found both of mine to be uneconomical, and because of how utterly slow they are, you have to drive fairly hard to forge on, so, it's not really a cheap car to drive around in. Steering wheel position is dire, gear box is sloppy and feels about as brittle as it actually is. I think probably the best things about the car are the brakes, which give no feedback, but stop you dead; and the reversing cam, which, when it works is pretty useful :).

Personally, I would avoid.
 
They're so bad you bought 2 of them, lol! :p

I've agreed to buy this one, the 2.0 is supposed to be far better to drive than the 1.8, and everything works (for now!), if it lasts me a couple of years without costing me stupid money, I'll be happy, hopefully you were just VERY unlucky!
 
You'll hate it. P12s have turning circle of titanic, massive blind spots, you can't see rear properly because of curvature of side panels and odd shaped boot and camera doesn't help much on the sides. Despite being made by Brits in Sunderland, it's got interior streamlined for continental production economy, so for example hand brake handle is positioned under passengers bum, instead of next to driver and central speedo is just naff. Hitachi sat nav is now very long in tooth, despite "bird view" it just doesn't cut it, even with new discs.

After literally countless chain of Almeras and earlier Primeras, after 3 days in P12 loaner even i decided to draw a line and ditch the brand.

I'll give it a go, was nice enough to drive for the few miles I did, easily as nice as the Scenic I'm coming from (not saying much admittedly!), plenty of toys, room for the dog, and safe enough for my little boy, as I said in my previous post, if I can get a reasonably cheap couple of years out of it, I'll be happy.
 
My GF had one as a first car. Only good thing about it was the amount of room. It makes a great car for long journeys. The engines are generally great as they are Nissan. Everything else is generally crap as it is french.

Main problem to look out for are electronics, especially the rear light clusters as they can cause no end of grief.
