In the search for my first car I have come across several 1.6 focus's with the body of an ST170

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201047373945960

I've tried searching the net but have failed to find any info about it so don't really want to take an interest in buying before knowing some facts

The Main things I'm confused about are why it was made (looks perfect to me :D) and how would you insure it, I guess as a modified 1.6 Elle but I'm not sure

Hope someone here knows something about it!

Thanks

So is the advice to steer clear?

All of the elle models I have come across look like this so I thought it might of been a special/limited edition model

Body.....kit.

There is hardly anything different to a normal focus. Fog lights, lower grill, headlights.

Ah body kit, why didn't I think of that :p

Don't suppose anyone knows roughly what a body kit adds to insurance?

I'm wondering if it would be wise to consider if it popular with thieves, I've heard fiesta ST's attract attention but is the focus the same?

Tom|nbk did that to his Focus. The ST170 imo is a ridiclous car. Quite expensive running costs and insurance for a car that doesn't deserve the money it costs to run one.

However I still think it looks great and making a 1.6 look like one is fair do's I reckon.

The only way I'd personally stick on a bodykit onto a car is to make it look like a higher spec car of the same model, in this case, the ST. But aslong as it's done right.

Why would you want to do that?

Really, this is something I genuinely cannot for the life of me understand. Why not just save the money you'd waste on different wheels and bodykits and just buy the better model in the first place? That way you get the looks and almost certainly a better equipped/better handling/faster car to boot. It wouldn't surprise me if in man cases insurance worked out cheaper (Modified example of lower speced car vs standard example of higher speced car).

Because it costs a few hundred quid to do and the people that would do this couldn't insure an ST170. It's a car crippled with stupid insurance prices. All you need to do is change the wheels, the front bumper and then paint the side and rear bumper bump strips the same color as the car. It's pretty inexpensive as 'conversions' go.

The ST170 is a great car but fundamentally crap and ruined by the numerous niggles and small reliability issues. Personally I'm all for OEM+.

To make your car look better, obviously. BMW do it aswell with their M Sport cars so there is definatley appeal for this.

They are minor modifications which make your car look 1,000,000 times better!

Me as the example as I am looking for the car :D

Insurance cost (12 months, full comp, main driver):

No mods:

Focus 1.6 Elle - £986.72

Focus ST170 - £2053.42

With body kit:

Focus 1.6 Elle - £1058.22

What have you told them for the modifications as there is no st170 body kit.

I would assume most insurance companies would charge a set rate for 'body kit'. Same as they wouldn't care what make of alloys you change to, just that it differs from factory.

Yes but there is no body kit.
You get the st170 look by making individual mods to a few things.

Eesh, i see what you mean there!

Suspension
Spoiler airdam front
Exterior decorative changes
