I haven't used Windows for a few years now and I am setting up a friends iPhone:

What is the best application for managing/backing up contacts? I use Address Book on the Mac. What should I be using for syncing/viewing photos?

Many Thanks

To view the photos on the phone, you open it outside of iTunes like a camera or portable storage device and simply copy and paste.

If your using iTunes you can create a Google Mail online address book and then get the iphone to sync with Google Mail Contacts. It's the best one in my opinion if the phones lost you always have your contacts there.

+1 to that!!.. its great having your contacts safe online!

I am having issues with it on my Mac – for some reason it won't group the contacts as I have them grouped on my Address book (can it two-way sync)?

Is the Yahoo contacts sync worth looking at? My friend already has a Yahoo email, so I am thinking it may be easier.

Thanks for the replies, I think I may need to experiment before making the decision.

This! You can do the same with your calendar and mail to :).

I had all my contacts on my iPhone all neatly organised and wanted access to them on my PC so what I did was:

1.) go to google.com/contacts and delete any contacts I had there.

2.) Open iTunes, and connect iPhone, set iTunes to sync contacts with Google Contacts from Info tab

3.) Perform sync once and disable the contact syncing.

4.) Then set up Google Sync to sync my Google Mail, Calendar and Contacts via Exchange.

It works flawlessly.

I can add/edit a contact on my PC and it pretty much instantly appaers on my phone!

Sounds like you should have gotten a Blackberry! :D
