Setting up Asus Xonar DG and Goldring NS1000

although .... when i use the amp i headphone have some distorted noise like...every 3-5 seconds... (when theres no music...like a electrical surge..zeep...zeep..zeep )

(right now..im using amp + battery)

hissing + distorted noise = FAIL?!?!

kinda annoying and really piissing me off........ or is this a fault?

and btw.. the amp is fully charged =/

EDIT: OK ..now its really annoying...every click (on the itunes tracks .. like to highlight the music) has the distortion noise =( ...even selecting folders like my documents , pictures, etc does it =( omg..

ok nevermind...i found the problem.

was the amp chargers fault.. =(

kinda sucks now...since everytime i need to use headphones i gotta take the charger out =(

or is this the amp fault?

I only get noise on my e5 when it's fully charged. Ok when charging and plugged in. It's not a fault, just a limitation of the design.

I got me amp, and it sounds good and clear. Albeit I think the bass is a bit overpowering will have to adjust it with the eq settings.

Just a quick update.
I got the fiio e1 delivered yesterday (took over 2 weeks despite being listed as available..).

Makes a world of difference to these headphones!
Sounds much better with the ANR turned off and a headphone amp.

Interestingly, the headphone amp makes very little difference to my monster turbine IEM's - I guess it's because the goldrings are 300ohm.

They're 100 ohm with ANR off and 300 ohm with it on. It's not that simple.

Incidentally I don't know of any other headphones that sound so different with a suitable amp.

No, thats pretty much how it works. I don't think it's the best plan to leave a rechargeable device plugged in permanently anyway. I have the e5 on my desk next to the monitor and the USB tie wrapped near by, literally takes a second to plug it in or unplug it. And usually good for a few days of heavy use before needs charged again, as long as remember to turn it off. Keep the amp volume down a little when charging usually fixes any hissing for me.

yh.. i guess u guys are right...leaving the amp parmanently charged with reduce battery life =/ i think..

guess il have to get used to that distortion thing when using the amp while charging. =/

but...problem is whys the headphone cable so short? 0.0?

everytime i move... i keep moving the amp...also annoying =( ...any way to extend it?

Headphone extension cables do the job, £5 gets you a nice 3m Fisual cable from a good audio shop. Google around I'm sure you'll find it.

Reason for the short cable is because they are designed for use on planes. Long cable isn't going to be much fun on a plane. ;)

£5! Blimey, looks pretty good too. The QED one, that looks identical to the DR150 cable, but red, is £30! Shows the damn mark up some of these cables can have.

From my and many others experience Fisual appears to be the best budget audio cable manufacturer around, it doesn't break the bank like some of the bigger names but is still a quality purchase. Kind of like Goldring I guess :D

u mean this cable?

yh and also..which is left and which is right? on the headphones it doesnt say =/

because in 'Realtek HD Audio Manager' i used the testing feature, and the ANR switch cup is suppose to be on the left (whereas im wearing it on the right)

so...how am i suppose to wear it?

Can't be bothered to read throughout the entire thread but I noticed some of you guys have problem with the "hiss". It appears on two occasions, when charging the E5 and a very slight one, if you set the amp to max volume.

I don't know how good your hearing is but it is definitely noticeable and can be easily cancelled by lowering the amp volume by 3-4 notches.

Remember, when E5's turns off on low battery, it's sound goes all the way down to the lowest setting. Each time it does that, you have to crank it up back to its intended volume.

Having the exact same setup as the OP, I'm using 6 channels, 96kHz, 64ohm > setting of internal amp (sounds good enough with Goldrings on the highest volume with both the E5 and the soundcard settings), using the Front Panel for headphones, DH-1 and VSS 7.1 on. No other DSP in Xonar Audio Centre as they only deteriorate the sound.

6 channels setting is fine when listening to the music in foobar2000, it doesn't upmix well with YouTube videos though.

No not that one that wouldn't fit. I'm referring to a male to female jack from a popular audio company. You probably want to remove that link too, forum rules ;)

As for the left/right, on the NS1000s it does indicate which is which, above one cup there is a L or an R, I can't remember which side it's on and I haven't received my replacement yet to check but there is only one cup indicated. The other way to check is which way does it sit properly? I believe they are the same as my DR150s which I do have at hand, the cable should go in on the left side.

well, on top of the theres a '=' sign ..which i dunno what that means =/
and they sit like whats on the pic.

so.. the cable will be on my right if i wear them like on the pic

Thats what confused me the best way to check which is which though, is to go into the Xonar Audio Center and click the speaker test button.
