Hi all

Im thinking of getting myself a fan controller for my antec 1200. I have been looking at the scythe which looks kinda neat

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BB-007-SY

My main question is the antec 1200 front fans are molex only so i will have to buy new fans to connect to the controller, so will the new fans i connect (3 pin) just plug into the 3 pin slot on the fan contoller or will every fan have to be powered by a molex as well? I understand the fan controller will connect via a molex cable but i cant see how that would be enough to power 4 fans

hope you can help

Liam

In theory theres no reason why you cant connect your existing case fans to a fan controller via molex to 3 pin adapters. Whether youd want to use the existing fans is up to you though. If they're reasonably good fans, why not?

If you choose to get new fans I'm 99.9% sure they'll all come with 3 or 4 pin plugs which will plug individually into a 3 pin header on the fan controller.

There is absolutely no need for molex connectors as well, as they will take sufficient current from each 3pin header on the fan controller. Fans need a tiny amount of juice to run anyway. On a decent fan controller you could hook up multiple fans to each header if you wanted to.

Thanks for that mate i might consider using the stock tri cool fans. I really like the look of the apache fans they seem to move a good amount of air at a very low noise level. The only downside with them is they are not LED fans which i kinda would like.

I suppose i could always try putting some cold cathodes in the HD cage which would produce a bit of light i guess, i just like the led's on the standard antec 1200 fans all be it they are a bit noisy

LED fan's are a pain I disconnected all mine from the motor's power source and reconnected them to another wire. I can now turn them on and off as I please.

I have a similar situation, got the antec 1200, got xilence redwings instead of the tricool fans though. LED's annoy me a lot.

Need a fan controller though and it is between the scythe and the NZXT I have another thread about it but my problem is on which is the best one not if it will fit.
