Cant seem to get insured on my chav mobile

This modding thing is handy if you sort of want a pay as you go it i suppose. i dunno why i said that to be honest, iv had a few now :)

Can someone explain why you'd phone an insurance company for a quote when you can do it online and have more time to find it cheaper by playing around with the quote settings? On the phone you have to give the details and not change anything, but on Admiral you can change things like mileage, place kept at night, etc to see what's the cheapest, even change the car type to see what's cheapest.

Because you can say to someone on the phone 'no that's not cheap enough' and they'll come back on the phone and give you a cheaper price. I've NEVER beaten a phone quote online.

I normally do that, then ring up to see if anyone can beat the lowest price.

Why would you want to change where you keep a car at night?

My insurance wanted to put my premium up as i said my car was kept on a Raf camp during normal working hours. Apparantly there is a greater risk of theft with cars left at work. Once I explained that it was in a security controlled car park with an armed guard at the gate they reduced it again. God knows how i would have explained that to the internet...:D

What's your stance on this? Seeing as you said in the ST170 replica thread that you couldn't see the reason why someone would bother and just spend the extra money on the better model/car?

My stance on modifying? I'm all for it as long as it is reasonably tasteful and you're looking to create something that can't really be 'bought'.

That's where my thoughts I posted in the ST170 thread stem from. There is so much more to the higher speced model in the range than just looks, and I learned this the hard way in my first 205 which was a GTI replica (done by the previous owner). It was an incredibility good replica, it seemed like everytime I went to a petrol station I was asked by some bloke in his 40s if I was looking to sell it, but at the end of the day it was still a fake and it still embarrassed me. When I ended up buying my GTI a few months later I was far happier with it even though it wasn't nearly as tidy as the rep. I was happy because it was the real deal and that meant a hell of a lot to me. I think many people who think replicas are a good thing forget that, you might have the looks, but you won't have the power, or brakes, or handling, or equipment and most importantly of all, the ownership experience :).

The ST170 is rubbish at what it is, the 1.6 Focus is good at what it is, so I can entirely see the point in a 1.6 looking like an ST170.

Chances are I'd have said no too (not that I've seen the bonnet vents but I bet I will say they are nasty :D But I've learnt to just do what makes you happiest with your car.

My old Golf was blue and was then sprayed beige for example. Many people said it was a stupid idea but I wanted to do it anyway. Turns out after it was finished loads of people liked it so go figure. :D Even though that wasn't the aim, it's always a nice plus.
