Am looking at upgrading my 275GTX, my system is in my sig and currently game at 1920x1200, or though may upgrade my monitor at some point to. What is the next natural upgarde, not bother which way i got ATI or Nvidia. Basically what would give me a nice increase and best bang for buck, i mean i could just get the most expensive card, but i wouldnt feel happy knowing that i really didnt need to ;)

Also where does the 275GTX OCX stand in todays standings?

Lets just say theres no way id ever spend that much on a GFX card :D

If i can keep it around £150-250 would be ideal

You talked about best bang for buck and that you could go out and buy the best gfx card available but wanted bang for buck. I give you the best bang for buck out there and say that? You didn't look at the price of a 6950 I take it?

Yeah sorry, i saw the cross fire bundle price at the top lol.

So what sort of performance increase can i expect going from a 275GTX OCX to a 6950?, 25%??

Gfx card tech has stagnated a lot over the last few years unfortunatly. Making it difficult for a lot users to justify upgrading from a 2+ year old card which cost under £200 at the time.

You'l have to spend around £400+ to double your performance, around £200-250 mark for approx 40% improvement and a £150 card will give you approx 25% boost.

chucking in another 275 for sli, will give you around the performance to the cards costing around the £200-250 mark for around £60 2nd hand.

That said, as you have a hi res monitor - newer cards tend to have more ram which assist with higher resolutions(plus opprtunities for more multisampling), have the benifts of dx11 ( which isnt really used yet to any noticeable effect in games yet), and will offer a reduction in power consumption over 2 cards. Also 1 card is useually better than 2 - sometimes there is hastle with xfire/sli.

I am in similar shoes, to me buying anthing less than a 580gtx isnt worth the upgrade to a new card, at the current prices it's hard to justify.

£270 will get you a GTX 570 from this very retailer if you move fast and remember to use the novatrise discount code. I know it's £20 outside your stated range but it's a massive improvement.

That will more than double performance at your next resolution in Battlefield BC2 over your existing card.

Others may disagree but i found that the EVGA GTX460 1GB for the win edition gfx card is a good one for high performance and low cost. I have two running in sli and i must say i can run GTA IV at full settings with a decent frame rate. I was thinking its totally worth it and im really pleased with it.

Just my thoughts

Its more that pc gaming has stagnated imo. There just aren't the games being developed that require any more power these days. Most people justify their upgrades by buying bigger monitors and gaming at higher resolutions, but its still all c3 year old engines and frankly look like crap compared to how pc games "should" look in 2011!

i was in a similar situation a few months back and opted for a 2nd hand gtx 275 to sli and tbh, its rips through any game I play bar metro 2033 with high/max settings! I do only game at 1440x900 tho lol!

Whichever way you look at it, bang for buck-wise a 2nd hand gtx275 will only cost aroud 60-70 and give performance around gtx480 level which is pretty cool.

Be warned though, you will still be riddled with the urge to upgrade to the latest cards as you will know that even with respectable performance for all the games out at the moment, youre still running old tech grrrr:)

GTX 570 = about twice the performance of your GTX 275.

GTX 275 SLI = roughly the same performance as a GTX 570, but with the added potential complications of SLI (emphasis on 'potential', as SLI has matured a lot over the last few years), and added power consumption. Maybe lower minimum FPS too.

Price the 2 options and see whats more worth your while.

The only thing I would say is your question is about the 'next natural upgrade'. Are there many games you cannot max at the moment, and would justify an upgrade?

I upgraded recently from a GTX275 to a GTX580, same resolution as you, and yes it was an expensive upgrade and it gives me far more performance than I really need right now. But at the same time its also given me lots of head room for the future, and I doubt I'll need to upgrade again any time soon.

At your budget I'd probably try to squeeze a little more and go for the GTX570, otherwise do what the other guys are suggesting and go for the 6950.

the only solution for 150-250£ is 6950 (flashed or not).

anything lower than and it's not worthwhile. 275 can still tackle most games at near high settings. 6950 flashed will be worthwhile imo.
