hi all new to the forums n read a few other threads about builds so i thought id ask as ive never actualy build a rig before (i like to think i know enough about pc's + ive fiddled with the insides of my own swapping psu's n gpu's hd's n the like)
so anyways im planning a new build im saving up for (gunna build myself this time as its cheaper + you know exactly what hardwares inside) and wanted some advice/it checking to make sure it will work together (ram confuses me)

so far ive picked out

phenom 2 x4 955 125w edition
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-244-AM

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-251-GI

Corsair TX 850W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-013-CS

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C8 1333MHz Dual-Channel
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-257-CS

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-120-WD

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-AR

with win7 64bit home premium

would these work? ill be using it for gaming 3-4 eve online clients, fps's preferably max settings, music production n such
i already have a antec 900 case and a 1tb hd ill be using for storing music/videos https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-324-WD

to begin with ill be using an old 9800GT i have until i save up the extra for a new gpu, i was thinking http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-147-XF or am i better going with 2 cards in crossfire? also will these cards fit in the case i have? ill be gaming on a 22" widescreen LCD but i also have a 20" widescreen LCD i use as a 2nd monitor for web browsing n such

im also unsure on the cpu cooler as ive heard it hangs over 2 ram slots which eventualy id want to add in another 2x2g sticks is there another cooler youd recomend? preferably not to expensive also im not fond of applying thermal paste so preferably one with it pre-applied

i may try out OC'ing aswel as i heard you can get those cpu's to 3.8 on air is the freezer 7 pro rev 2 good enough to cool it down at 3.8ghz?

all that comes to £760 if refeable id want it cheaper if someone can suggest a system that does the same but cheaper

anyways seen how good you guys are so thought id make as thread for you to do your magic :)

I think you have to rotate the freezer 7 the wrong way to fit amd - worth checking.

Get a Gigabyte 460 as GPU

id rather go ati... got sick of nvidia noisey fans.. rebranded cards with not much diference in performance

wanna try ati + mobo has the option for crossfire so id want to have that as an option of a future update

Hi there,

Have you considered going for an Intel Sandy Bridge system instead (i5 2500K specifically)? It is considerably more powerful than the Phenom II X4 (have a look at this comparison) - which will help for your uses and it overclocks wonderfully too (most people are able to hit 4.6GHz).

The i5 2500k is £185 and a sli/cf capable motherboard is £150, so this system would cost £116 more than the amd system in the op.

however, there are some savings you can make to claw the money back. this psu for example is good quality (here is a review) and will happily power two high-end graphics cards. This alone will save you £60.

Also, if you go for this RAM - it is actually faster and save you £17.

Hence - going for a Sandy Bridge (with the above changes to the rest of the spec) will only cost £39 more.

Also, if you are planning to spend ~£200 on a graphics card - I would strongly suggest going for the HD 6950 instead. Its £25 more, but is a great card (performance review here) and if you look at this page has a very good chance of unlocking to a 6970.

Alternatively, if you just want a cheaper system go for the Phenom II X4 955, this board, the RAM and PSU changes I mentioned above and this GPU. Should save you a few bob.

the ram stulid linked works with that board cmndr linked right?
if so i changed the ram to the ram he suggested, the mobo/psu to the ones you suggested saved just shy of £100 as for gpu not so important right now ill be buying that in a few more weeks, prices may have dropped by then so well see :)

so ill be buying it sometime this weekish...
