Does anyone here still use a single core pc?

My dad's PC is still an Athlon XP 3200+. You have to go make a drink while it's booting but otherwise it's not bad.

Yep, got an old P4 2.53 running in one of the old ASUS barebones kits acting as a download box to an external USB HDD. Not amazingly fast which makes it a bit sluggish to use remotely, but certainly workable for what its designed for. The onboard is extremely poor though and would eat some RAM, so I stuck an old 9600pro I had lying around, which works fine passively with the fan removed as load on it is so low.

Runs fairly happily 24/7 without making excessive levels of noise once I replaced the fan and heatsink. CPUs a little toasty but then it always was!
 
To be honest, for the amount of regular users that actually run multithreaded applications the Sempron 145 can easily cope with their needs without breaking a sweat.
 
I have a fileserver which is single core and an old xp laptop. My main computer is dual core as is the HTPC.

Even our phones will be dual core soon ;)
 
I have a few single cores running. Parents use a 754 Athlon64 3200 venice with XP and it runs really fast for everything they use it for. Still a very viable system if you keep it free of junk.

I have a couple of SFF's that I use exclusively for emulation and retrogaming. The older SFF's from the boom era when they were really popular (Shuttles, Biostar, Aopen etc) are smaller than the modern ones - ideal for retro PC's.

One is a Aopen Barton XP, nforce2, Radeon 9700 Pro and 1GB RAM. The other a Biostar Athlon 64 Venice, nforce3, x800 XT PE and 2GB RAM. They are networked together for Quake3, UT and other LAN sessions plus have arcade joysticks and gamepads for emulation (SNES, Megadrive, Amiga etc).

These single core SFF's are so cheap to get hold of these days and don't take up much space. Great for retrogaming, where a dual core is overkill. Also a lot smaller than having all the real systems around the place!

Intel atom netbook and a sempron LE desktop which replaced a pentium D family PC after the mobo died. all it was used for was word, and occasional wow sessions (really sucked for it) Upgraded it last year with an HD4650 and 4gb ram I wasn't really using which now allows it play some older games fairly well and source stuff. My brother also plays ship/train simulators on it and facebook games. I have a 5400 x2 to go into it but haven't had time to try remove the cooler (Tried before and it was fairly well stuck on). gonna get a 1080p TV for that room and turn it into a media PC
 
My old PC at my parents house which I still use sometimes when I'm visiting has an Athlon 3000+. Runs Windows 7 surprisingly well.
 
I use a P4 2.5ghz computer for downloads and also use a 1.6ghz centrino laptop still, but got my destop in my sig for everything else.

I am currently writing this post on a Pentium 4 running at 2.4 GHz and this is the computer I use on a daily basis in work. Best bit is the 504 MB of RAM....makes life very interesting and by intersting I mean slow and prone to numerous crashes and wasted time.

Suppose they have to save money on some fronts so as to pay the bonuses to tall the top cats in Whitehall somehow......
 
only single core thing still in operation here are my parents laptops: AMD turion and an intel celeron M, both way too slow for my liking, I've been dual core since conroe
