Hi all,

Does anyone here have this card, and have you overclocked it? Would you mind sharing your settings/experiences etc? I have just got this card - it's mighty, miles better than my old GTX 275 - but am unsure of what overclocking settings to go with. Any advice much appreciated :)

Alex

hmmm Just whack it on max volts, 1.087 and should get you 800mhz core easily, maybe 850, maybe 900 if lucky

you should be fine heat wise with that cooler

mine is 850 core, 1700 shader, 1700 memory

will get you most of the performance you'll ever get out the card

Putting it on max volts does not mean you will get the best overclock as heat may become as issue.

I would see how far it goes on stock voltage, download the tropics demo

Load up afterburner and unlock the voltage run the tropics demo then turn up the core speed in afterburner, (675 may be a starting point).

Watch the demo and if its fine turn the core up in afterburner by 25, keep doing this until you see defects or the driver fails, blue screen or whatever.

When this happens turn the voltage up a bit and repeat until you find the max stable OC for your card.

You should save the clock setting as you go.

Thanks for the replies guys. Am new to OCing graphics cards. I ran the tropical demo (and wow what a demo..!) Got the results listed below on stock setting apart from using 60% fan. GPU max temp was 65c. I guess my first question, what do people reccomend a maximum running temp to be whilst running games/demos? Is 70-75c ok for the duration of games playing, and returning to stock when not running games?

When I was running a single 470 with a reference cooler, I was hitting 80+ degrees in games. The 470 chip is safe running up to 105 degrees, but obviously you want to keep it below 85-90. Of course, having the twin frozr edition, this should be no problem!

As above, I would aim to keep the temp to a max of 90°. Once you have your overclock sorted you can make a custom fan profile in afterburner to keep the noise down I have mine set to run at 100% when the GPU reaches 80°

OK, tried Tropical demo benchmark again, with the same settings, this time with the graphics card clocks at:

1062mV core voltage
750mhz core clock
1500mhz shader clock
1674mhz memory clock
75% fan speed

Max GPU hit 75c.

Benchmark Results:
FPS: 45.3
Scores: 1142
Min FPS: 31.1
Max FPS: 68.9

So avg FPS raised from 38 to 45.

Was halfway through a second run on the tropical benchmark when the computer suddenly turned off, like the power cut out. I was at 1075mV, 800 core, 1600 shader, 1675 memory. All seemed to be running fine, I didn't see any glitches or artifacts. Two questions:

1) Could this cutout be PSU related? I have a thermaltake 850W PSU (now about 4 years old).
2) Is it because I didn't have the correct voltage set, or some other problem?

Would be interested to see other people's settings for this card at a variety of overclocks.

Cheers guys.

I got this on stock voltage.....

With afterburner at 700/1400.

Steve.

I have 1025mV, 800, 1600, 1806.

This is the max I can get out my card, raising the core voltage pushes the temp too high and my pc re-sets. I got a bit over 800, 1600 stable but I turned it down to 800, 1600 just incase, this is really stable I never get re-sets or driver failure.

Thanks Jimmy. Assuming auto fan? The custom fan profile feature of afterburner is very good I must say.

Any idea about my cutout? Would to try going to an 800 core clock but don't want to do so until I figure out why it cut out. Was sort of expecting to see artifacts as a sign that the OC was not working, rather than an abrupt cut out...! .

It prob shut down because of high temp, to much / to little voltage it just depends on the chip.

I assume that it locked up or crashed with a lower core voltage?

Temp was 74c at the time, no locks, no freezes, no stutters, just immediate power off.

Just now I tried these settings -1062/800/1600/1721 / custom fan profile - twice through and all seems well, max temp 72. Maybe it was the core voltage reduced from 1075 to 1062 that meant it didn't cut out this time?

I don't fully understand how the 4 parameters (sliders) relate to one another though. I guess I'll keep trying at 800 but just reducing the voltage until it doesn't work. You run at 1025 at 800 so I guess I could work back to that.

74° is quite low, if you can get the core voltage down you can try clocking it a bit higher and increasing the core voltage a little if it becomes unstable.

When you have found your best OC I would leave tropics running for 20-30mins just to be sure.

Guys is this card the same as the stock Msi 470GTX but with the fancy cooler and if so how high can you go with the voltage. At 1.037v 861\1722\1674, Gelid Icy Vision cooler keeping temps to 57c while running Heaven 2.1 . Wondering how high I can go with the voltage, safely.:)

Jimmy I have been running using your settings, with success. Mostly testing using tropical demo for 20 mins, and running arma II, FEAR, FSX and rfactor all at full detail. Max temps got to 72. You mentioned you couldn't go higher as you system shut down due to high temps. What temps did you get to?

1.087 is the voltage limit coded in to all nvidia cards. This is bypassable, but pretty much anything up to 1.087 wont do any damage. (Unless the card is overheating :p)
