That's exactly what i mean :)

However i suppose when you get down to cars that i'm likely to buy (< 5k) what's an "option" becomes less important anyway because it needs much less of an accident to write the car off.

Also if i get a relatievly minor shunt from behind as long as i'm not damaged i'm less likely to go through his insurance and more likely to get the relevant parts from a breaker.

This is the thing that puts me off.

The only thing I'd take from it is the looks but I know I'd get a lot of people I know saying wow you own an ST170 and then having to explain that its not

I don't want to pretend like I have a fast car, it just looks so nice compared to a standard focus of that age :p
 
All you have to say is I liked the look of the ST170 but I didn't want the stupid running costs considering the performance. It's not like you're turning it into an RS and spending £2000 to do it :p

I can see why people do it but to be honest i would just feel embarrased all the time driving around in something that i have tried to make look faster than it is. It would be ****, as you say, having to explain it to everyone as well when you talk about your car.

But that is just me, if you really like the look of them and the cost is reasonable then don't let what other people think stop you!
 
Most people wouldn't care and those that do would need telling once.
Are you some sort of social butterfly that has millions of friends or tells random people stuff or something?

Embarrasing to tell everyone... whatever lol
 
I don't get that either, those in the know will know it isn't an ST170, those that don't know a lot about cars will just say OOHHHHH NICE CAR LOL. I've never had to justify my car to anyone, even with a stupid front grille.
 
Well if he genuinely doesnt care what other people think then he should just do it.

well, maybe not all tosh, but a little bit. :p From what the OP said, it sounds like people he knows would be asking him about his car and be interested in it.
 
Yes, that's all well and good. But to say you'd be embarrassed to keep telling everyone is something different.
