And before I go any further, no I'm not in any financial trouble at all. I believe someone has sold my details to these people.

Anyway, I think the company is called 'Clarice' or something, I couldn't find it when searching online. They have called me six times within the past week, every single time I've told them I'm not interested and EVERY time they reply with "okay, I've just deleted your details off the system" well obviously you ******* haven't when you keep calling!!!

What can I do here? It's my parents landline that they keep calling and apart from being a huge pain in the arse to me (I work nightshift and have been continuously woken up through the day by them) it's inconvenient to my parents as they have to keep answering. Obviously we can't just ignore the phone as it might be an important call.

How are these people allowed to do this??

Had a similar situation many years ago, took a little longer than planned to pay O2 but the issue was resolved very quickly. Despite this, some debt management company claimed I owed them money - spent months proving I didn't and they finally believed me. A year later, another company tried the same thing. Took me over a month this time to prove they were talking out their behinds! Recently COOP say I have a red flag against my credit and I have got one of those free credit reports (came back with nothing), which may or may not be related to the incompetence of those companies!

Do they ask for anyone by name that actually lives there or are they asking for someone else?

I've had it in the past where they are asking for someone else because some fool has either put in the wrong number by accident or more likely wanted a quote for something and didn't want to put his own number in.

I had a claims company texting me for about 4 months, they thought I was someone called Amih something and were trying to chase money, I must have told them around 10 times and got really angry, in the end I blasted at them on the phone, since then they have stopped texting/calling.

Can't you just have there number blocked?

They have withheld their number, tried 1471 and it just said the number is unknown. The company are not saying that I owe them money, they are saying I'm in financial difficulty and are trying to get me to take a loan from them.

I don't know how else to get the phone number if they are keeping it withheld.

No, they are asking for me by name.

Specifically ask them to put you on their 'Do Not Call' list.
IIRC, Telemarketing companies are required to have one of these lists by law and can face legal action if they do not comply with your wishes

Doesn't apply if they're not calling from the UK...

Also if you have their name you can complain to the financial ombudsman I think - it sounds like they are at best breaking the code of conduct for phone sales, and potentially in breach of the terms of their consumer credit licence if they are trying it to get you to take out a loan.

That is, of course assuming they are a company that is properly registered and legally operating in the UK.

The staff that I've spoken to so far have all been well-spoken English so I assume it's a UK company.

I kept looking on Google for debt management companies but I haven't found any that sound anything like 'Clarice'...they probably go by different names.

Telcos, as previously mentioned, can see all numbers involved during a call as they are saved in a "CDR" - a call data record - which is used for billing purposes. Phone up BT and say you're being harassed and need a number block on an anon number who called at XX:XX.

Yep had this also on my mobile a few times then all of a sudden it started on my home telephone, after like 20/30 times I actually kept my calm and spoke a guy, asked him politely to remove me from the call list and it stopped. I had tried that earlier but it didnt work, but I kept my cool this time and talked to him about what they do what his role was etc, started a conversation and then asked him to remove my details.

The annoying thing is what do these people hope to achieve?

I get one monthly from some idiotic woman who speaks english as her 18th language, makes no sense and just says "orange upgrade" constantly, she tries to confirm my postcode, wrongly of course then asks me to correct it for her, so I give her my schools postcode. At this point she always hangs up, so weird :D

Next time they call tell them you are registered with the telephone preference service & if they ring again you will report them.
