Generation facebook

The thing that irks me most about facebook is that a lot of people now go out on nights out with cameras and take photo after photo of themselves and their friends all night. You don't have to document every time you're out on the lash. Just go enjoy it?!

THEN WHY ARE YOU USING IT!

"Todge is eating a cheeeeeeeeeeese burrrrrrrrgerrrrrrr. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

Just to be absolutely clear I am in no way using it, thank you. LMAO @ Von, spot on you got it.

But then how will they fill there ego shrines? They don't even go out to drink any more just to get pictures. If nobody had a camera they would just stay at home.

This is a post I made about the last LOLFacebook thread....

Whilst I use Facebook pretty much daily, I don't install apps or anything like that, and keep it to people I actually know. I find it great to keep in tocuh with friends who are rubbish at keeping in touch. Furthermore over 80% of my friends don't live in London. Addtionally 20% of my friends don't even live in the UK so it makes it nice and easy to keep in touch that way.

It's easier and quicker than typing out an email to all of them regularly - and it's far more visual. It's nice to share pics of nights out or parties or places you've been with people you care about that can't be with you.

The majority of my family don't live in the UK either so again it's a great way to keep tabs on what's going on in their lives - sure we chat on Skype from time to time, but at least this way you get live data and a feel of what's going on with their lives on a day to day business. All big news clearly, you know about far sooner.

So, yes I use Facebook, but I use it for the use that I need from it. Keeping in touch with friends and family that I can't see regularly - it's made keeping in touch with people easier, and if anything has brought a lot of my friends and family in a better state of contact. It's good to embrace things which are helpful - rather than snub things because you're not interested in it.

I read an article about how insurance companies are working out ways to use facebook data to calculate premiums more accurately. For example if one of your friends has a bunch of drink driving arrests, it will affect YOUR premiums. Or if you have a bunch of pictures or keywords about using drugs or whatever.

With all the talk of facebook doing an IPO and goldman sachs investing millions, I'm pretty sure that is how they will eventually make money off facebook. Selling your info to data miners (employers, the government, insurance companies, etc), or charging you hundreds of £ some some "privacy shield" service.
