Well it's time for me to sort out the insurance on the car.
I got the renewal quote through from Admiral - £400 wanted.
So I think "No way am I paying that - to the Internet"

So now here I am almost a week after my renewal quote came through and it would appear that the renewal quote is by far the best deal I can get!

I'm 35 - License for 18 years, 18 years NCB (Only 9 actually listed).
No endorsements, no accidents.
Car I'm insuring is a 2007 Skoda Octavia vRS.

I can get just under £400 from a couple of other insurers.
But then when I add in protected NCB, Guaranteed Hire Car and total excess (comp+vol) of £200 the quotes sky rocket.
Even adding my wife on (Provisional License holder, but does drop the quotes) doesn't get me near the renewal from Admiral.

Like for like my renewal quote is around £75 cheaper than anywhere else - and I've tried everywhere else!

I can't remember the last time a renewal quote has been my best.
I may even give Admiral a call and see if I can get that reduced a little - it usually works when you call up after the renewal.

Just wondered if I'm the only one - because we all know how these insurance companies give you a good deal one year and then totally screw you over at renewal, hoping you won't bother shopping round.

This happened to me this year, my renewal for my 530i was £385 from Swiftcover, I checked a few places and no one could touch that, not even Swiftcover with the same details.

Insurance certainly has rocketed. Wonder if insurers are still using premiums to buy dodgy CDOs or whatever the finance guys are calling then these days. We have to pay for their greed :/

Still no point in accepting the renewal, it's always worth phoning up to try and get a bit off.

current insurer has quoted £1547.?? and aviva managed to quote me at £987.
been ringing around a bit today to try see if there's a lower place. even adrian flux said they can only do £1630. nowhere seems to be able to come close to aviva.
1.4 mgzr and only been driving a year

I had the same with swift cover but I went with first direct in the end as they had an offer on to beat your renewal quote by 10% and swift cover refused to reduce my renewal quote.

I think the offer is valid till the end of this month so you might be able to save 10%.

Oh, nice one!
I'll fill in the quote request at First Direct tonight.
Guarantee to beat my written quote by 10% - so there's £40 to be saved there.

Last year my Direct Line renewal quote (with all mods declared) came out cheaper than doing the same quote on their website with the mods not declared (have to phone to add them) and was much cheaper than anyone else.

Doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not complaining! I just hope it's the same this year.

That's a good shout - cheers.

My renewal with Aviva is £440ish, up from £300 (after cashback) last year. This year I don't have to list an SP30 but otherwise no change in what I'm insuring. Shopping around has been rubbish - seeing a lot of quotes at £700+ once you add protected NCD etc.

Yay!
Quote from First Direct came in at £372.
Called Up Admiral, told them their quote was good, but I'd got an offer of 10% less.
Lovely woman checked my details - matched the First Direct quote and threw in 42 days of car hire in the case of my car being a total loss.

Can't complain.

Good shout indeed. Renewal is £437, First Direct want £395. Despite changing the policy (more miles, kept on drive rather than garaged, only 7 years NCD rather than 9 years), the price didn't go up.

Time to ring Aviva me thinks...

Same with our Multicar!

Mum objected to the amount her car was, but then the nearest other insurers could get to it was the same price as her & my car together!

Still phoned them up and got £75 off for "being a loyal customer" :D.
