HI!!

I've had oblivion for ages now, only played it for a few days as I just couldn't get 'into it' as much as I did with fallout 3 (which I play for ages and loved)

I think the problem I had with oblivion was trying to decide which 'character' routes to go, magic/swords etc etc

I'm going to try start this up again tonight since the new game has been announced, does anybody have any advice for me to try enjoy this game to the full? i.e which 'route' in character skills and stats to take?

Thanks!

p.s on the PS3

Best thing to do is just make a decision on whether you want to go Melee, Magic or Stealth, then from there you can decide what Race, Birthsign, attributes and skills to choose to fully maximize your character.

For example a decent mage build would be a Breton (50% magic resistance, +50 mana) with a mage birthsign (+50 mana).

So it's best to go one rather than mix them together?

Forgot to mention it's the goty edition so it's got the addons with it

Hi Andr3w,

its been a while since I played the game, but I would also recommend concentrating on a particular aspect, at least to start with to get up to say 50 or so in 3 or 4 skills

I seem to remember the skills upgrading at numbers like 25 / 50 / 75 / 100, for example more special moves for melee, extra damage for the bow...

I had fun playing a Rogue/Hunter hybrid. Basically I had all the poisons, high markmanship and sneak.

If you used to FPS games I guess you could call me a medieval sniper :P

Just focus on levelling a few attributes for the time mate, for example, if you want to be an archer just focus on markmanship, alchemy, sneak, etc. I havent played in a while so i cant remember the exact specs, but just google it, there's thousands of threads online similar to this :)

good luck!

Oh and dw, Oblivion is not the same it was years ago, the graphics/gameplay are not that innovative and groundbreaking as they were when it was released, so don't feel bad if you can't get into it. I'm sure our parents loved pacman but I don't see what all the fuss is about ;)

For a first time play I would recommend it, but there is nothing to stop you from using melee etc as a spell caster, since you can still level up your other skills too. I have a character that is maxed out in everything so I can use anything I want, but it took a lot of time and effort.

I've got for wood elf as being an archer/thief sounds cool?

As an archer will I get owned up close :(?

edit: got bored of archer right at the start so went mage :)

Mage is probably the most fun since you can create your own spells when you advance far enough through the mages guild.
