Hello,

I don't really know to much with regards to laptop specs and how good they are but is the following spec worth £800 of anyone's money.

PROCESSOR : INTEL I7 720QM(1.60GHZ, 6MB)

DISPLAY : 15.6IN WIDE HD+ (1600 X 900)

MEMORY : 4096MB (2X2048) 1333MHZ DDR3 DU

HARD DRIVE : 320GB SERIAL ATA

OPTICAL DRIVE : SLOT LOAD DVD+/-RW (DVD,

GRAPHICS : 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 260M

OPERATING SYSTEM : ENGLISH GENUINE WINDOWS 7

Laptop like that would be hard to find and Alienwares are really expensive.

Don't expect great battery life because it's a quad but the good points are:

It's one of the best processors you can get on a lappy.
Its one of the best screens you can get on a laptop and very hard to find these days since everyone seems to have stopped making them, maybe cuz their too expensive compared to the lower resolution ones.
It's only 9 months old, im at work, but you can google how much a 15in Alienware goes for :).

The bad: The GPU is 2 generations old? It doesn't do DX11. It should still play everything you want, what games are you gonna be playing?

Hmmm good question, most modern game I guess from Starcraft2, COD black ops, Crysis and Crysis 2 when it comes out, Fallout new vegas. stuff like that

Umm graphics card is old now... If it is really just for gaming the bottle neck will be to gnu not CPU. For that price a good dell would do. Or for £100 mote one of ocuk msi gt660 would be big improvement...

I have had alienware in the past and unfortunately you pay a lot for lights and badge

Cool I'll take a look around thanx for your help

As a gaming rig, it's not competitive, especially at this price point. Probably not enough for serious gaming, but you could bring the price down a bit and it wouldn't be bad as a home laptop. Dunno if you can manually swap the GFX card for something more up to date, because the rest looks good (maybe swap the HD as well, if it's 5400rpm).

EDIT : apparently you can't.

I have an Alienware m15x about the same spec as the one you are being offered. It can play all the latest games so don't let anyone put you off. You should also be able to extend the warranty with Dell for around £170 for 3 years peace of mind.

Some people like Alienware and some people don't because they are expensive. If the laptop is in good condition I would say you would be getting a reasonable deal at £800.

Depends..... it is second hand so you would have to say a simular spec laptop that almost a year old would cost maybe £500 used max possibly a lot cheap?

A new laptop of same spec maybe £600-700 max.

For an alienware its not bad but remember with all alienwares you pay a good £300-800 for the badge

Get an Alienware from Dell outlet for around that price, but better spec'd (well, maybe a bit more expensive, but it should at least guide you to how much your mate's is worth).
