So i have seen many threads made for whats the best budget card(less than £100) or whats the best card between 570 and 6950. What i want to know is whats the best inbetween card. I really cant afford to go up to the 6950 cost as i just dont have the cash available no matter how much i want it :D.

I am currently running 2x 8800gtx in sli with a resolution of 1920x1200

I would like to be able to max out the settings in games and have the card last me a fairly long time considering the 8800 has lasted 4 years this month, a mammoth achievemnet in my eyes as it still plays almost all games at high graphics settings

S0 would a second hand 470gtx be a lot quicker than a 5850?
Also would the 5850 be quicker or slower than a 6870?

5850 is faster than a 6850 and slightly slower than a 470. The one I linked to has a great quiet cooler on as well. The 470 with stock cooling can run hot and loud, it uses a lot more power than a 5850, things worth considering.

Stick with the 5850, the 470 is Bgrade so I would not touch, the 5850 will easily do 5870 speed with some overclocking so that's the 5870 knocked on the head.

Not entirely, as the cores are pretty much the same the 5870 is clocked higher. Both start bottoming out about 1000 core so there is more headroom with the 5850.

You only have to look at the quite minor difference in a locked v unlocked 6950 to see what the extra shaders of the 5870 really do...it aint much.

Would 8800gtx sli not have very similar performance to a single 5850 or gtx460 so therefore potentially not worth the upgrade? Heat & power issues not withstanding of course....

Just my 2p

that msi 5850 is locked on oc to 775 but then again there a gd card for the money . ocing a card u dont get much more fps 5-15. i like to keep above 35 atleast eye candy maxed. if can't get evan with a oc with new game or new monitor with higher res, then time to upgrade. unless u get the sodding bug with new stuff coming out that is.( there goes the overdaft again)
470 runs warm takes more power = bigger elecy bill but a fast card
5850 less power @ stock but not as quick, not by much tho. some oc like hell / referance boards 1gig core
6850 new tech less power , oced can beat 470 in some games.does better at tesselation than 5850.
460 1gig bit slower than others, uses less power oc's well .
a plus for the nv cards have cude.are faster for folding

Raven you know damn well that graphics cards put in the 'B' Grade with a full warranty are brand new and that card also comes with Mafia 2 game, so at £167.99 I would say its a steal.

In my experience 'B' grade can mean:- open box, a customer returned item, a RMA item that has either been repaired or replaced by the manufacturer, an item that has been used for test purposes, surplus stock, products with missing parts.

Do not assume that the item will work, I have had a few 'B' grade items that were DOA.
