Hi :D

I'm just wondering which Catalyst sets you 6950 guys are using at the moment. I have resolved my power supply issue, but am still getting random BSODS when gaming in DX 10\11 Crysis Warhead, F12010, Civ 5.

I am running a HIS 6950 2Gb on Windows 7 64.

Obviously there is the disc that came with my card. Which Catalyst should I try, as I understand it the 10.12's don't support 69X0 cards?

And no, I haven't attempted a card unlock yet.

Yep, has been for months 24/7 and Prime 95torture, Furmark, LinX and Futuremark stable. E6600 @ 3.2 with OCZ Reaper 1150ddr Ram at 2.2 on a Gigabyte EP45-DS3. Arctic Freezer 2 cooler, Load temps are fine. Power OCZ StealthStream2 600.

Never had this trouble with my HD4870 :(

PS: Happens @ stock as well, so I'm thinking drivers.

I am using the same catalyst version as you (10.12a) and have had no problems and i have also used the normal 10.12 (the version without the preview of the new catalyst interface) and that worked fine too. Did you have a nvidia card before this new 6950 and if you did did you completely wipe you nvidia drivers from your pc.

Nope, I had a Sapphire HD4870 and did a full uninstall via Programs and a registry sweep using "AMD Catalyst TwL Cleaner v3.9.0" followed by a reboot, then Catalyst install, then DX update.

Thanks for all the replies. Please keep 'em coming peeps! I'm trying to avoid an OS re-install here because a)I don't think it's the problem and b) I have an epic DAW build here thats day's of work to rebuild.

Nope, not going to try until I'm stable at 6950.

Gotta be worth a go when I am though :D

So, IMHO I think I'm looking at drivers or a bad card. It doesn't crash after a set period of time. I played a few levels of Warhead before it went last night. All on Enthusiast settings at 16 x 10 and while it worked it was epic!

Also, I'm wondering if this is DX 10.1\Dx11 bugs in the games. I can find lots of people with Crysis, F12010 and Civ V lockups and reboots...All DX10.1, DX11 or 64bit exe related. MAybe I should run HL2 for a few hours and see if it goes over...

Any more ideas? If it's a bad card, how can I prove it and how does RMA work?
 
My 6970 has spent many hours in 2 rigs and not one BSOD on either......

Somethings not right, can you try the card in another rig?

It looks like I fixed it :)

Trapped the BSOD, read it in BlueScreenViewer, did some googling and, voila!!

"Stop 0x0000007E SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" error when the GPU is under heavy load conditions in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

This problem only occurs when the GPU utilization is high.

You have to apply for the hotfix, but this matches my BSOD's and I was just playing Crysis for 50mins without issue after applying this. Was crashing every 10 before.

This looks like an important hotfix and ONLY applies where Dxgmms1.sys and a few other files are involved. I hope this helps anyone else out there.
