Have Intel Killed AMD Off...............

Yea it could be personal reasons; but this close to sandy bridge release and with the culmination of his time there coming in the release of bulldozer- too much of a coincidence for me and I doubt that it is a case of him being too bashful to take the praise.

I used to work in a pc store and a lot of people always went for Intel because of the brand name. Some people on here seem to disagree............That is up to them :D

No one was disagreeing with that, the problem is you find it hard to stick to your point & dance around.

I was disagreeing with the average people buy Intel because of wanting & willing to pay for extra performance when that is not the case & in fact its nearly purely down to brand recognition why they buy Intel.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say? Yes, the average Joe will go for Intel because of the brand name. The enthusiast will always pay the bit extra for the performance.

This is what i have been trying to point out all along. :D

Again your not sticking to the facts because there are many enthusiasts who bought AMD.

You can not keep using the term always because that is not a fact & on top of that everyone would need to be using the top Intel offing as well for that to be a fact which most don't.

Many enthusiasts did, and do buy AMD i agree. They want a cheaper solution and were prepared to sacrifice the best performance for it.

Like i have said over and over again: I personally would rather pay a bit extra for the performance. It's not like the difference is thousands of pounds. Just my opinion.

1) right.

2) That is up to the individual.

One term, that may explain the buying behaviour of individuals purchasing chips, is consumer surplus.
Say for example an individual is willing to pay £330 for a 8core Bulldozer chip, but at release date the chip is to be priced at say £270……that person wil net a consumer surplus of £60, so basically that person can assume he saved himself £60. Now imagine more people doing all this on a global scale, and wa'la AMD has business selling chips which consumers associate with "best bang for buck" or "High value".
By the way, one of key reasons why I am looking to buy a sandybridge i5 K chip is becauase I was willing to pay upto £220 for 4 Cores. Performance was not the influencer, it was the fact that I saved myself some money.

Not really. Most people I know could not less who makes the CPU in their new laptop or desktop. They are not that interested in computing hardware. TBH,most people don't even have a clue about the hardware in their computer. The Apple iPad is a huge success and yet most people know nothing about its hardware.

Ease of use,how good the product looks, reliability and value for money are what most people are looking for when purchasing a PC.

Perhaps you should look at the number of Dell lines having AMD processors. Dell is one of the biggest PC companies in the world. There are plenty of desktops and laptops which have AMD processors in the stores of a certain large UK retail group.

In most cases people will listen to what the sales person says or what their friend who has the most knowledge of technology will say. If they say Intel they go for Intel and if not they will go for AMD.

In fact it is most likely because YOU are telling people that Intel is the best at your workplace that your customers would be going for Intel.

If they were clued up they would be most likely be buying their stuff off an internet store as it would be cheaper.

Ok let me ask you a question: Which would you rather have out of the following?

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-253-AM&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1328

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-339-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1672

I would pay the extra few quid for the faster Intel part.

having look at them both (and i am no fan boy) my money would go on the amd chip
but that is beacuse the price has droped even lower
what i am getting fed up with is changing mobo with every new gen of intel cpu
at least with amd you just swap out the chip and that for me makes it much better value for money

i am running an intel rig just now and was looking to upgrade to that i7 950 (just before the sandy bridge launch)decided to wait
then i looked at the sandy bridge but at the mo if you want to oc u lose the gpu and if you want the gpu you can't oc (at least thats how it came across in the reviews i read)
but my rig is running the games i play without any problems and my other software i have decided to wait and see how the new amds will compare
so for now i will just upgrade my other hardware
