Which is better? Read the techspot review and apparently the 4650 is better. I'm just wanting to play flight simulator 2004. As I've mentioned in another thread, currently have a ati x1950 pro with an intel pentium d and I get around 25fps, however my x1950 pro does nothing but crash with bsod's ect.

PS: Will be playing on 22" LCD. Thanks.

The 4650 is the faster card.

May I ask what your budget it? If you are playing FSX you may want to consider picking up an 8800GT or HD 4850s second hand, though with these you are likely to be CPU limited.

I play fs2004 mate. I plan sometime this year on building a better PC (i7 ect) however atm I just want to be able to fly without the thing crashing.

Jason2 what are the full specs of your pc mate ? Motherboard and PSU you have i'm intrested in the most.. but would like to know what size memory you have and what resolution that 22" monitor is.

Ah, fair enough - I misread the OP, my bad.

I wouldn't suggest going for the 5450 as it isn't really a gaming card - its mainly designed for home theatre PCs.

Depending on your budget, I would go with either a HD 5550 (£53) or a GT 430 (£57). The GT 430 is a considerbly more powerful card (this review shows it generally matches or beats even the 5570).

If you want to spend less than £50 then I would strongly suggest you go second hand, as the retail cards at this price are heavily stripped down to reach the price point.

MS flight sims are all CPU limited not graphics card limited but good to have a graphics card that is fast and with 1GB memory.. So was hoping for him to list his motherboard and maybe he's better off finding a cheap quad and new card to really make that pc work well with MS Flight Sims.

You may want to consider upgrading the CPU to a Core 2 Duo E6600. Your motherboard can support it (with 0201 BIOS), this CPU costs ~£35 second hand and is considerably faster than a pentium D. In CPU heavy games like flight sims, this upgrade would give you a nice boost (along with a new GPU).

Just tried install 9.3 display driver via that ati install manager -- and failed! So now I have no drivers. Bought this when it came out and have never really been able use it really. Unbelievable.

EDIT: Installed 9.1 drivers. Bit better but I still keep getting that ati has stopped working and has recovered..... See how long it takes before I get a bsod.

find out when the game came out and try and find drivers that came out shortly after....also a few months after the card came out.

maybe you just need a windows reinstall ? i had lots of bsod at one point which a reinstall fixed....this obviously is a last resort, if you have a spare old hard drive you could always try a reinstall on that.

I've found out before if drivers are constantly installed and removed, and then installed and removed again etc etc (without removing EVERYTHING before you reinstall each time) it can mess it up big time. I did this once, and using Driver Sweeper it still managed to balls something up.

Maybe try a fresh install of Windows, then install your driver of choice.

An upgrade probably wouldn't go a miss, but if your playing a game with 2004 in its title then I assume your card and CPU should be more than adequate. :)

Update: Removed all drivers, used driver sweeper then installed the 9.1 display driver, and then managed to complete a 12 hour flight. However, browsing the internet this morning and I get a bsod? Pathetic lol. Hopefully the last.

PS: I've reinstalled windows many times. It just must be a faulty card. There is no other explanation as I've tried literally everything.

have you checked the pc's fans are working, remove all the dust from the cards fan and make sure the fan is spinning.

but yea it sounds like the card is knackered
