T-Mobile reducing data caps from 3GB per month to 500MB.

Reading more about this it really really won't affect me as I never use an video or music streaming. its a bit of a bummer but its probably the least restrictive 500mb FUP i've seen.

They should allow it for anyone on a current contract though and just change it for new users as people have already said.

Well, after you've used up 500 mb on videos / downloads or whatever else and that gets blocked, how would you plan to use up your remaining 2.5 Gb?

It sounds ridiculous to me after having been on T mobile for 5 years and having always praised them for their data plans and customer service.

Thats an excellant doc. I've slightly modified it for the 1gig limit on my plan and I am going to send it recorded delivery, in the next few days.

Are you going to do the brave thing and cancel your standing order with them too?

They will just ignore your letter or fob it off otherwise like Vodafone did to most people.

Glad I noticed this thread. If I don't get a SMS or letter by the weekend I think I'll also be giving them a call. The 3GB usage was a large reason for going with T Mobile in the first place.

If fact even if I do receive an SMS or letter I'll still be calling them to cancel.

Ive only just started a TMobile contract (was the 12month £7.50 SIMO offer at the end of November) so I dont think I even have stats what Im using.

I moved from O2 because of the iPhone data changes and knew I was more often than not using 500Mb of data so this isnt good news. Im hoping I can still access my O2 online account to prove my previous usage if I need to cancel...

Problem is my contracts pretty damn good (600mins, unlimited texts and 3GB data) so moving elsewhere is gonna cost extra and seeing as TMobile have gone backwards theres no guarantees the grass will remain greener elsewhere...

Bit confused what to do :(

Meanwhile, Ofcom has suggested that it could investigate the change in T-Mobile's terms and conditions if the regulator receives a sufficient number of complaints regarding the matter. An Ofcom spokesperson told ZDNet UK on Tuesday that "some complaints" had been received, but the number is not yet clear.

Im on the same boat as you. Sim Only £7.50 600mins, 500 text, Unlimited Text, and 3GB Data.

No other network can match that at the moment. Even if it droped to 500MB, No other network can match value for money for what you're paying for.

I did ring customer service today, according to the guy over the phone, He stated that the 500MB is only for Download and streaming etc.. Browsing, emailing is free(Unlimited, according to T-mobile) and will not effect the 500MB Allowence?
As far i was concerned browsing, emailing was part of the data allowence?

Can someone clarify this?

No idea what I am on for data, and looking at my account details has got me no closer to seeing what my current data allowance/set up is. Can you leave your contract as it is detrimental but then take out a new contract under the new conditions. (ie they are doing us for data allowance and expect us to stay with them so can we do them for a phone and stay with them?)

Anyone know what the flext30 take out with an android would be?

My data allowance is currently 0 as my phone had to get sent away to Samsung as an update killed it :(

They told me that initially too but as I've seen others being told it does effect android users, I asked them to double check and unsurprisingly, android users are effected too.

I've just phoned for the 3rd time to triple check that my 3gb allowance has been fixed for the term of my contract and it appears as if they weren't just fobbing me off. I've had a chargeable booster added to my account along with a loyalty discount to cancel out the fee.

So anybody not just looking for an excuse to get out of their contract early, if you kick up a small amount of fuss you'll keep your 3gb allowance.

I've been with t-mobile 17 months, and the only reason i picked them was the 3gb limit on andriod, i went direct and have been mostly happy. I dont tend to watch video and i've just looked at the t-mobile site and i've used 1.5gb so far (just under 3 weeks). But thats why i wanted the higher limit
Really annoyed that the only provider with good data is going to be three

Baz what did you specifically ask for? Might do same too as theres no benefit in me leaving T-Mobile currently - though I guess Ill have this pain when my contract ends at the end of the year - shame its not permanent...

Letter follows. Please dont copy it word for word but feel free to use it for inspiration. I've removed some paragraphs relating to the fact they didnt give me enough notice as this isnt relevent here.

Dear Sir/Madam,

In line with the airtime agreement between us, I am writing to you today notify to you that I would like to request termination of the above account and the provision of a Porting Authorisation Code so that I may retain my number.

On 30th September 2010 at 21:48 I received written notification from yourselves via text message that you will now charge me £5 per month for data used above 500mb from 1st October, in 500mb increments. There was no charge of £5 for 500MB of data in the contract originally agreed between us. Hence by definition it is a new charge and a change in the Terms and Conditions.

This constitutes a breach of the contract we hold with each other. Such charging is not suitable for my needs and I would not have signed an airtime agreement containing a specific £5 charge for exceeding 500mb of data.

Section 48(1) of the Communications Act 2003, which as you are aware regulates the telecoms industry, states that:
Where the Communications Provider intends to modify a condition in a contract with a Consumer which is likely to be of material detriment to the Consumer, the Communications Provider shall:
(a) provide the Consumer with at least one month’s notice of its intention detailing the proposed modification; and
(b) inform the Consumer of the ability to terminate the contract without penalty if the proposed modification is not acceptable to the Consumer.

Clause 11 of our airtime agreement states:

11.2. You may end this Agreement by writing to us if:
(c) we increase your Charges in the UK which have the effect of increasing your total call and usage charges (based upon your usage in the previous month) by more than 10% and you write to us before the increase takes effect; or
(d) we change this Agreement to your significant disadvantage including the change or withdrawal of Services (we will tell you if this is the case) and you write to us within one month of us telling you about the change. This does not apply where the change relates to Services which can be cancelled without termination of this Agreement.
As I use more than 500mb of data each month (With the obvious exception of time spent roaming abroad in the United States for my September bill) the introduction of the additional £5 charge has the effect of both increasing my total call and usage charges by more than 10% and also constituting a significant change as per term 11.2(d).

Therefore both the airtime agreement between us and section 48(1) of the Communications Act 2003 state I have the ability to terminate the airtime agreement without penalty, both on the grounds that I do not accept the excessive new charges and that you have given me insufficient notice of the new charges.

I look forward to receiving my Porting Authorisation Code and confirmation of the termination of my account.

Well i am still yet to receive any notice from T-Mobile and i have already exceeded 250MB this month. Should i wait until i do receive notice, if ever?
