Hi,

I'm just wondering about this, how many of us drivers aren't particularly keen on being a passenger?

Reason I'm wondering is, I'm heading to the cinema with a friend tonight, and they offered to drive - I countered with saying that I'd prefer to drive, almost automatically. My girlfriend doesn't drive, so I rarely have the opportunity to be a passenger.

Anyone else like this, or am I just a control freak? :p

Its one of my most hated things ever, to the point were a lot of mates take the **** for it. I hate it! Never used to be so bad.

Apart from my Mum - because I've let her drive me for years and she's very good - except that time she almost rammed someone who stole her parking space LOL :D

Generally I feel a bit uneasy being a passenger with someone new.

I won't ride sissy any more since some van driver crashed into the passenger door whilst i was chilling watching the Doris drive. I can't stand being so close to the kerb & don't trust anybody else to not crash.

Ah yes - I should add, I'm fine with either of my parents - except now that I've been driving for a good few years, I pick up on their driving, like my mum's insistence on tailgating everyone, and my dad's love of 4th gear :D

I am ok being a passenger in other peoples cars, unless they drive like tools, in which case i would rather drive myself and know if i do end up in a crash it is my own fault.

Not mad keen on being a passenger. If we're talking just normal "down the shops" sort of driving I can think of more people who worry me than people who don't, including my mum and both of Kate's parents :D

There is a very small handful of people I know who could travel with at speed with confidence, and I've known most of them for years.

Can't stand anyone else driving apart from taxi drivers :p

My wife's driving is atrocious she has no sense of the correct speed she's either going too fast or too slow, she get's bullied from cars behind so ends up speeding up because someone is tailgating then getting in trouble, she hesitates then someone cuts her up. Randomly hits kerbs and says oops, I've tried but it's a hopeless I just let her drive a POS

I'm a bit indifferent to it all. I find myself thinking as if I'm driving anyway if you know what I mean....I don't tend to just switch off and be a zombie like my mum does when my dad is driving.

Things feel faster as a passenger aswell.

Im ok with driving but I refuse to be a passenger in one of my mates cars as he acts like a #$%* whilst driving and always seems to brag about how many cars his dad has wrote of like hes planning the same ? but when hes out of the car hes a sound guy oddly

I cannot stand being a passenger.

Just don't trust anyone not to crash. I have one friend who I trust to drive me around. And even then I get a bit cranky in the passenger seat!

There are some people with whom I'm happy to be a passenger, people I'd consider equally competent or even more competent than me behind the wheel (not hard really :p). Lopez is one of these people that I could happily let drive any time. :)

However, anything other than that, I get irritated with decisions they make or how they drive, though the number 1 thing, is their lack of observation. :(

As soon as a driver turns to look at me in the passenger seat i want to punch them in the face.
Why do they have to look at you when they talk.

Sat as a front passenger in the OiC's seat of a fire appliance under blues can be interesting at times.

Oh, and I'd never, ever go pillion on a bike no matter how much you paid me.

I get pretty antsy in the passenger seat with most people I know (including both of my parents), but there's a handful of people I trust. At Motors Meets and such where I know that the person driving knows how to handle their car I'm fine as well. It's just that feeling of not being in control, and the 'lazy' attitude people tend to adopt; things like gear selection, awareness and attentiveness to the road ahead, lane discipline. Most of the time I just bite my tongue though.

My tolerance as a passenger was revealed in the 'Time has come' thread - I'm terrible, especially if someone it booting it and taking risks, even if they are risks I would take myself (Although they never seem like this from the passenger seat!).

I've been with my other half for over three years now, and in that time she has driven me about 5 times and every time I've either been drunk, hungover or ill. That said, I'm quite happy for her to drive any car of mine - she has regularly driven the VXR, ST and even the RX8 I borrowed! She isn't your typical woman driver, but her "above expectations" driving ability/confidence is the problem half the time :)
